my dad talks so damn loud when he's on the phone, that he wakes me up from my room. Like, if you're in a room full of people, you need to talk sort of loud. That's how he is on the phone in a quiet house.

Today he called 3 different people just to talk about himself and what he's been up the past few days. What. the. f. It's just yak yak yak yak yak yak yak. Noooobody cares dad! Nothing personal! They're waiting to hang up. stfu!! On the second phone call he was telling someone about all the money he lost last night playing poker. And then he's like, "and i had to give my son $10." I wasn't even there!!

Ethics and Moral Theory
Long Essay Assignment
Due: November 24, 2010.
Length: approximately 1500 words
Value: 25%

Instructions:

Research Essay
1) Think of an ethical issue that you are interested in. Examples include genetic engineering, the use of torture, abortion, euthanasia, animal testing, censorship of pornography, wearing a niqab in court, etc.

2) Find TWO sources in some sort of public medium which make arguments about one of these issues. This may be from newspapers (especially editorials), websites (e.g., a pro-life organization), or even blogs. The only criteria for a good source that I have is that it be long enough and that it actually presents an argument—i.e., an opinion that is backed up with reasoning. A tweet that says ‘abortion sucks’ would be a bad source.

3) State each argument in your own words as accurately and concisely as possible.

4) Analyze each argument: is it a good one? You can tell by going through each point (called a ‘premise’) and discussing whether it’s true or not. If you agree with the article’s position, defend it from a possible objection from the opposing side.

5) Finally, show how each argument is connected to any of the theories you’ve learned about in this class.

6) BE SURE TO CITE YOUR SOURCES CLEARLY AND PROVIDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY so that I can look up the originals.
