So Ressler and his colleague Brian Dias opted to study epigenetic inheritance in laboratory mice trained to fear the smell of acetophenone, a chemical the scent of which has been compared to those of cherries and almonds. He and Dias wafted the scent around a small chamber, while giving small electric shocks to male mice. The animals eventually learned to associate the scent with pain, shuddering in the presence of acetophenone even without a shock.

This reaction was passed on to their pups, Dias and Ressler report today in Nature Neuroscience1. Despite never having encountered acetophenone in their lives, the offspring exhibited increased sensitivity when introduced to its smell, shuddering more markedly in its presence compared with the descendants of mice that had been conditioned to be startled by a different smell or that had gone through no such conditioning. A third generation of mice — the 'grandchildren' — also inherited this reaction, as did mice conceived through in vitro fertilization with sperm from males sensitized to acetophenone. Similar experiments showed that the response can also be transmitted down from the mother.

What?! No way. That's insane.

I just read that the next Ernest movie was going to be Ernest the Pirate, where Ernest finds himself in a pirate ship in the 1600s.

But the actor was so sick from cancer it couldn't happen.

That sounds like the best Ernest movie!

I had no idea about most of the post season 12 events marked here. Did Selma actually marry Grampa? Also interesting that they mark the air-date of The Parent Rap as being the the moment the Simpsons became bad, cause I remember that being the first episode where I watched it and thought "This is a seriously shitty episode".

Not, it was a clip show hosted by Troy Maclure where they made fun of how shitty their plotlines were at the end.

Like, "And the writers have ideas for years! Like... Bart gets a cellphone? Selma marrys GRAMPA?!" etc.

It was actually funny, but a good sign the show knew it was becoming shittier.

The graph kind of says that it was a joke, and not an episode - but it is a bit vague.

I'm lucky that I started watching the show on Sunday primetime around when the film was released. I always found it funny and a nice alternative to stuff like Family Guy. More 'wholesome,' if you will. Lighter.

It was years later that I started hearing the disdain plenty of people have for the show's current quality.

Given that I've never really seen the "better"/earlier episodes I've found it easy to be content with it.

[insert your judgement now]

I see Flash Funk in there (pink or orange bodysuit with yellow/white lightning bolt) so that's mid to late 90s... they usually do this stuff to advertise the Royal Rumble, but on the apron it says Wrestlemania?????? I'm assuming it would be a Monday Night Raw leading into the Rumble, but that Apron is making me confused.
