Does it seem like I'm holding a pitchfork? I'm just making an observation about the way he uses statistics as a personal attack on fox news. There's something to be noted from that and the way many people feel the need to defend him and those statements.

i'm watching a bbc recording of leonard bernstein's mass, from 2012.

it may be the lamest thing i've ever seen in my entire life.

it's actually giving me really bad memories of going on these school field trips to the kennedy center to watch "hip" and "with it" classical music presentations for young people.

no wonder classical music has become so unpopular and hated with young people

i don't think that the avant-garde guys like xenakis and messiaen ruined it

i think the shitty popularizers and "polystylists" like bernstein and schnittke ruined it

holy lord this is a steaming pile of garbage. watching the video just makes it even more cringeworthy

except that by the time bernstein wrote the Mass, the great tom wolfe had brutally eviscerated him in print, and people were just about tired of his nonsense. so people were actually willing to be like "yep. this is a blatant piece of crap" when it came out. with Hamilton, upper-middle class people feel pressured to pretend they actually like it

and now, having google-searched it, i find that the same dingleberry elites who (pretend to) enjoy Hamilton are now "revisiting" bernstein's mass, being like "oh wow! it's a flawed masterpiece! kitschy, but very deep and soul-searching..."
