did neil degrasse tyson or some equally lame pop scientist make a tweet about how the new years day is astronomically insignificant or some variation on that?

although in fairness, if he tweeted anonymously, his followers would all probably saying "i just can't get enough of that man's hodgepodge brain droppings! i wonder if he's an intellectually restless astrophysicist"

Doing it anonymously would be a lot cooler. He could even drop subtle hints about his identity occasionally to keep his followers engaged with speculation. He could tweet something like "Have a nice picnic today before the meteor shower! Sit on da grass and eat tyson chicken nuggets while listening to my podcast to learn more about meteorites!"

Assuming this story is true, this guy spent almost a million of his parent's money on an incomplete short film. The majority of the budget was wasted on drugs and a big premiere where he rented a community center with limos, red carpet, etc. Flew in all of his friends and relatives from out of town to watch it. Lawd.

i think Neil degrasse tyson realized his OG scientist reputation was waning so he stepped up his Twitter game to compensate

i've been reading little snippets of nassim taleb's new book on skin in the game

should be a real barn-burner

tbh i think he might get better and better as he goes. he's a totally unhinged asshole now. when you read Fooled By Randomness, he's a lot more chilled out. now he refuses to pull punches. he points out that piketty is an utter fraud with gusto! fantastic!

Quote:
The problem is never the problem; it is how people handle it. What was worse than the Piketty flaws was the discovery of how that Mandarin class operates. They got so excited by the rise of inequality that their actions were like fake news. Economists got so excited they praised Piketty for his “erudition” from his discussing Balzac and Jane Austen, the equivalent to hailing as a weightlifter someone seen carrying a briefcase. And they completely ignored my results –and when they didn’t, it was to declare that I was “arrogant” (recall that the strategy of using theorems is that they can’t say I was wrong, so they resorted to “arrogant” which is a form of scientific compliment). Even Paul Krugman who had written “if you think you’ve found an obvious hole, empirical or logical, in Piketty, you’re very probably wrong. He’s done his homework!”[iv], when I pointed out the flaw to him, when I met him in person, evaded it –not necessarily by meanness but most likely because probability and combinatorics eluded him, by his own admission.

Now consider that the likes of Krugman and Piketty have no downside in their existence –lowering inequality brings them up in the ladder of life. Unless the university system or the French state go bust, they will continue receiving their paycheck. Donald Trump is exposed to the risk of ending having his meals in a soup kitchen; not them.

yeah any supposed viral video that doesn't have the view count of the world's most popular Youtuber is pretty clearly a Correct the Record plant

no the point is those numbers aren't viral. when they label something with 1.8m youtube views in 2 months as a viral sensation its pretty silly

I'm late to the party but I just started watching Mad Men. It's equal parts infuriating and excellent. I really want a cigarette
