or did the judge view the (guilty black) man's rejecting the plea deal as an act of contempt, and made him pay for it?

I think it's more like he was offered a really sweet plea deal but didn't take it because he's an idiot who doesn't really understand the system or the process, so instead there was no choice but to hit him with the full brunt of the law

sucks, but what can you do? you can't force someone to plead guilty by taking a plea deal

am I missing something or isn't 40 years outragouesly excessive regardless of how he pleaded?

well, death threats count as assault, and he made death threats to a bunch of police officers, so he got a bunch of felony assault charges

now obviously the circumstances here made 40 years unreasonable despite it technically being multiple violent felonies...which is probably why that plea deal was offered

shucks i could've gone a lot further with this prediction

“… and the democratic presidential candidate will offer the woman support and the whole thing will be used to puff up an alt-right bogeyman for the election”

but that would've sounded crazy, right 😉

lol at this “interview”, never heard an interviewer call someone an idiot for answering a question

That makes it even worse! That almost makes it a crime not to be educated about the justice system, or a crime to be stupid.

"I'm not guilty"
"Admit you're guilty and you're free to go,"
"But I'm not guilty."
"OK dumbass, I guess we'll have to sentence you to whatever the law dictates without regard for the severity of the crime or your intent."

Nobody has to go away for X amount of time for any particular crime(s). (see: back alley dumpster rapist Brock Turner, great swimmer with bright future) It's at the discretion of the judge.

check out that editing

interviewer is clearly laughing along with Milo at parts, then they cut back to his face and he's got this appalled look

this kind of editing is in every interview segment ever. its just funny when it so noticeably flips reactions like this

bunch of screenshots of bullcrap. Ignore.

apparently when a comedian has a schtick you're not allowed to join in on the joke if it's a woman

like when Amy “back door tour” “inside amy schumer” Schumer shouted down that teen on twitter for implying she's promiscuous

don't worry though — she was actuaally punching up, see

now entangle yourself in this vast consipratorial web

So what you're saying is that basically as long as a plea deal is offered and declined, our justice system is right in giving out maximum sentences without regard to the specific situation.

or a least right enough for your gut reaction to be "heh, well guess he should have taken the deal" rather than "wow our criminal justice system is fucked up"

in modern western music, there seems to have developed a split when it comes to 'atonality.' on the one side, you have schoenberg, who was coming from wagner and mahler, and he initiates a huge wave of serialist and chromatic music, including alban berg, gyorgy ligeti, luigi nono, george crumb, and others. its very intellectual, very heady. but it's also very serious, almost oppressively serious.

then, on the other side, you have this more playful and alluring sort of chromaticism, coming from scriabin, then moving into debussy and ravel, moving further into messiaen, dutilleux, and others. we can put stravinsky in this category. perhaps bartok. it partly owes more to folkloric music, partly resembles the impressionist movement in painting. i prefer this kind of sound. i don't think there is as much of it as the first kind. the first kind got old, fast. you can't do much with it except think of it as a soundtrack to a horror film. but it has its place.

this is a good example of 2nd variety of chromaticism

far better than anything found in schoenberg's 12-tone serialism

I'm not sure what is supposed to infuriate me? The guy saying he "spent the night" didn't seem to be in any way indicative that he was trying to promote her tour positively. So yeah I think based on the perspective it seems like he's trying to imply more there, yeah.

I'm genuinely not opposed that she called him out on that.

It's a shitty joke and he deserved to be called out on it but not publicly like that imo. Her following compared to his meagre one means any reaction is gonna be far too over-the-top and unfair.

The last image, and the fact that Quilt is posting about it at all, is more annoying to me than anything. The dude made a shitty joke, and she... seriously Quilt "shouted down", are you kidding? Its four sentences of even-toned sarcasm. That is throwing shade at most.

None of this matters.

yeah i thought gthat twitter example was not very good. it was a pretty bad joke that the kid made & her response was justified

but a much more heinous / funny public debacle is the recent amy schumer/lena dunham interview & ensuing shitshow

it's almost like those two dumpy women are bitter about something
