i defintiely prefer that informal style game commentary to the clinical boring 'god i hope they take us seriously' esports style commentary

haha i actually prefer the dry technical commentary. i dont really watch esports but i am the type of person who will happily sit for hours and watch somebody beat Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup or Super Meat Boy. i like to try to understand the nuances of what the player is doing so that i can be that good myself, or at least reach a greater understanding of what it means to master something and how it ultimately affects your thinking and your whole self

Funny story my sister told me last week

So my sister told me this story about how in 6th grade gym class they had to get in groups of 2-8 and pick any song that didn't have bad words and come up with their own choreography for it. She said most of the ppl were just groups of like 2 or 3 ppl picking random songs and just doing cheesy dance moves.

Anyways, the point of the story is that the only group more than 3 people was "all the nerds" in the class got together as a group of 8 and did some elaborate choreography to Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams and she said it was literally the most awkward thing she's ever seen. She said it consisted of them like ducking down in a line and coming up one by one doing the "walk like an Egyptian" dance. There was a lot more elaborately organized choreography too, I honestly couldn't stop laughing when she was describing the dance, I'm laughing right now just thinking about it. She said "These kids were like 11/12 years old I don't even know how they knew that song..."

I dunno I was gonna make this post a thread but I figured it didn't deserve a whole thread.

Would it be possible to get a photo of Canadian child actor, Joey Cramer, signed by your son with a calligraphic pen?

hah well dry technical commentary can be great for learning stuff, and i do appreciate it when its good, but this vid is great cause its not only dry but it tells you NO information which is often how it ends up being in live commentary, and then you wish you just had screaming excited casters since youre learning nothing anyway

Not really, this is just an example of one of my favorites. Its where I got my steam name, 2dollaslices, because of how much shit Luigi tears up.

well i don't think watching 40min commentary on a game sounds strange, if you're really into that game. i've certainly watched commentaries that long on games i've played. when you want to get good you can pick up a lot of stuff from it if the commentary is decent.

i mean i think theres a part of that thats right, but really for learning anything i dont think you can get a lot from even very astute commentary. at best, without the understanding backing up alot of what makes an observation 'correct' you just end up with a mental checklist of 'things that are correct' rather than more general principles that lead to those specific pieces of knowledge, and at worst you end up just straight thinking the wrong thing. so for me theres a difference between digesting the commentary and watching the game thats important to highlgiht
