how? 9/11 cause american pride if anything. its not something we look back on and think "wow this country did something incredibly wrong". it was done to us.

Turkey's not really enough of an upgrade on (non-war-torn) Syria to be worth it. but at the same time, Turkey's stable and competent enough that the refugees aren't going to get killed and their basic needs will be attended to while they're there. and then when Syria stabilizes, they'll go back. that's really the best possible outcome (not that there are any particularly "good" ones no matter what). and the fact that getting to Turkey from Syria also doesn't involve a potentially deadly trip with people smugglers over the Mediterranean is also a nice bonus.

do you actually live in New York though?

cuz what I'm talking about really is how they act about 9/11

like, unless they're standing at the actual 9/11 memorial site they don't wanna talk about it and don't wanna especially hear about it

I'm referring to 9/11 as something you NY residents never talk about. I've in no way implied you did anything wrong. I'm just stating that it's very much a taboo topic.

well you did imply it with your first response to eukos, only reason i said anything. but if that's all youre saying then yeah, new yorkers don't mention 9/11 regularly

ugh, i hate arguing semantics, but this was the post order:

except it is almost the complete opposite of 9/11 to a new yorker. if anything, a new yorker would respond with patriotism. eukos is talking about a topic that diminishes patriotism.

whatever. i was only pointing out why it isn't the same, which you apparently already accept and just worded confusingly.

i wasn't jumping on anyone for an imperfect post. i was just pointing out how its drastically different. eukos' post stood out to me because that is a huge thing. i didn't realize germans as a whole have a lingering feeling like that, and as an american we don't have any lingering feelings like that other than possibly slavery which feels much more distant. saying the feeling in germany is just like the feeling of 9/11 to a new yorker is way far off and diminishes it, so i pointed out the difference.

normal conversation

no, you're cool, Lohr

in another thread they were punching me for not being God-like with my posts. that's what we are referring to in terms of posting imperfect stuff.
