Saw that... It's not a bad business move, really. If the whole community turns on you, then it's probably best. Not that I think that Reddit was at risk, I mean... the blackouts and private subs lasted what? 5 hours?

I dunno why anyone thought half of america's foremost hypersensitivity power couple was a good choice to be in charge of a website where half the members were up in arms over the subreddits dedicated to taking upskirt pictures of little kids getting deleted

good Al Jazeera article about Reddit here

I haven't looked at Reddit in weeks. Doesn't sound like I'm missing anything positive.

here's a pretty absurd article from the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/11/te...signation.html

amazingly, it is presented as news and not opinion.

the whole effect of Victoria getting canned was 24 hours at best. all the while I still had a 0% reduction in my enjoyment of the site.

Pao stepped down as CEO because Reddit as a community overwhelmingly decided she was a terrible, terrible fit. also, she gives a bad example for women in places like Silicon Valley.

the coolest thing about ellen pao is her husband -- a gay black con-man who resembles an even more bizarre and ineffectual version of bernie madoff or someone like that

the world is a magical and wonderful place

Posers are pretty vulnerable at this stage in the human timeline, it seems...

the author of the NYT article seems like the type who thinks those rascals on the World Wide Web are a bunch of hipsters.

I would say the blame is probably 60/40 Pao taking a job she was totally ill-suited for being in charge of a community full of many people who she is against in many ways/way too much of Reddit actually being toxic and misogynistic and terrible and acting like shitheads all the time

The narrative in the news sure seems to be correlating the blackout to the subreddit closures and Pao-hate, and barely mentioning the Victoria stuff, which tells me that even if it wasn't their plan, the narrative is being shifted that way. Reddit's been in crisis for months, and they seem to be tailoring the news angle to look like firing Pao solved everything. It didn't, but I'm sure the investors were placated for the time being.
