just finished watching all of the lord of the rings movies for the first time. they were good, but i think there was a bit too much focus on action, and too many scenes focused on showing off their technology that was able to render hundreds/thousands of characters at once.
now i want to read the books, because i feel like the base story was neat but could have been presented much better and fuller, as i expect it to be in the books. but fuck, i wish i'd read the books before the movie. now if i read the book i'll have the characters' images in my head already. oh well

It really is a lot of fun. It's really hard to organize, though. I really lucked out on this one and got 10 people, so we had two ships at the end of the night.

Also, you can play with 5 just fine. Coms and science can be doubled up really easily. You can do 4 if you all want to co-op instead of having a captain.

I was watching before bed last night and they fought Giovanni and their Pidgeot was their last remaining Pokemon and it was on 1hp and ALL THEY HAD TO DO was use the one move that still had PP left and worked on the opposing Pokemon and they used Whirlwind like idiots. Democracy is boring to watch but the few minutes they were on it was the only time they made serious progress. It does seemingly ruin the point though

Not a bad idea when you want to work but can't bring yourself to, which is a situation I often find myself. I'm glad that I just fucked around for a while there though. Felt more like a mental rest than anything.

yeah its just, they removed the whole "monkeys writing shakespeare" thing like goro said. now when the game is beaten, you know it was helped along by this new system. they activate democracy every single time they get stuck on anything for 10 minutes now.
it also removes the feeling of how it was before, where if you were watching and you knew they had been on the current bit for 10 hours, itd be great if you got to see them finally beat it. it made you want to keep watching. like when they spent hours trying to cut the tree, and you log in and they just did CUT 1 block away from it. but now, that tree would now only take 10 minutes, because that is when they would activate democracy, so there's never any feeling of excitement making you want to stick around.
i thought this project would last for like a whole year, and certain really hard bits would take so many days (10+ days for 1 simple thing) that it would only be beaten because the viewer count would drop to the hundreds and the trolls would be too bored to stick around. but no, now democracy will blast them through to the finish




its not like ive been following this heavily, i just thought i'd log in every few days and catch something funny, and itd be a fun project to follow in the long-term, but democracy being activated at any extended difficulty killed all interest.

also now the chat is like over 50% people voting for anarchy or democracy

edit: there will probably be other games being played in this fashion soon, without the democracy system, but i bet this remains the most popular one by far

quick explanation: it's not "fully random input each frame", I tried that and it was obviously terrible. Instead it randomly presses buttons and keeps them held for a random time.
