animated films: when aardman animates an actual claymation movie how do they know if the exact timing of the scene is going to work out to the recorded lines? Do the animators rehearse character body movement and then record each frame with every possible phoneme? So the right mouth can be found during the editing process?

So it's like the eyes and the rest of the body are in the same position for 15+ phonemes, and there is every possible mouth combination for every frame? I get that shows like South Park and Robot Chicken use a computer to make the mouth movements, with the characters separated from their "mouths" but in claymation world you can't really do that...

i think they touched on that at the animation festival i went to a while back, when a couple of people from aardman came along and brought along the little wallace and gromit models, that was a sweet day. but i don't remember much about the presentation

That seems like a lot of work considering most of it wouldn't be used. The mouths don't look particularly easy to swap over either. I'd have thought they might have some live action footage of someone saying the line at the same speed and at the same framerate that the animation is going to be, and then they can just try to match the mouths frame by frame. I've never really thought about it.

They indeed have computer programs for most animations to use as references (or actually to make the animation itself).

As for claymation-style, I can only assume that it's very similar to trying the same trick with 3dmm. Have the concrete line in your head or pre-recorded, then purposefully animate the biggest phonemes (almost entirely vowel work). Then quickly watch what you just made, see if you can mouth the words accurately, and move on.

Another method is to do something like that during animating, but have the actors try and record the lines later. That doesn't happen often and the results aren't as good.

But it could easily be any number of other possibilities

My standards: if its posted in relevant threads (or threads where its otherwise appropriate as random art), then it ceases to be spam. You're just jealous that I edit video better than the average 3DMM user.

I never watch your videos. They're spam.
In any thread other than the one promoting it obviously. How can you not see this?
