Hahaha. The fact that it's a Stop sign is so much funnier for some reason.

Happy freaking new years everybody!

I have an awful stomach virus, friends coming over later, might have to cancel.

EDIT: Never mind, it was my appendix.

PREDICTIONS FOR 2013 (in order of Most Sure to Least Sure):
- Paizo will launch an MMO. it will fail miserably and signal the decline of Pathfinder as a viable alternative to D&D just as D&D Next gains traction.
Like every other MMO, it will fail to compete effectively with World of Warcraft and will move from a Subscriber-only model to a "free"-to-play model and then cease functioning entirely sometime in the next 1d6 years.
- D&D Next will be received as a game which is functionally quite playable but thematically redundant. the rules will contain a few interesting ideas but will mostly consist of 3rd edition mixed with modified 1st ed AD&D, a few bones thrown to the 4thcore, and blatant rip-offs of game mechanics that have come out between 3.5 and now - so, basically the houserules that everybody has been running since 3.0 or before. It will nonetheless sell very well and potentially serve as a bridge between older and newer edition players. The art will be terrible and most of the splatbooks/modules/"fluff" will be awful, with a few gems mixed in. the design of the books will be nice though, and possibly quite good
- The 2nd Edition rulebooks will be re-printed, as will runs of various popular 3rd/2nd/1st edition splatbooks and adventures. many or all of them may be available online
However, ultimately the increase of editions of D&D and of various retro-clones and 3rd party games will further erode D&D's status as "King of the Roleplaying Games". eventually there will be a niche for everybody and no need for a "standardized" system. D&D will continue to exist but will be considered one option (and rarely the best) among many. Right now we are basically witnessing a bi-partisan split ("4e or less than or equal to 3.x???! or are you gonna do some crazy third-party bullshit") but the demise of Paizo will herald the beginning of a time in which partisanship is essentially nuncupatory. insignificant auteurs and publishing houses will easily consume the power vaccuum
- tabletop roleplaying will not become popular
- Kickstarter will become an increasingly viable funding option for independent game companies, publishers, and table-top game designers. However, consumers will invest more cautiously than last year.
- There will be a new Madden and a new Call of Duty and a new NCAA and they will both sell a fuck load of copies and be terrible. the Call of Duty game will be an expansion to Black Ops II or a 3rd-party sequel/spin-off
- Mount & Blade 2 will be announced with a full teaser and vague release date
- Steam and other online game sites will increasingly take revenue from physical game stores
- Google will announce an operating system

What problems do you have with Paizo/Pathfinder, aside from the art? I've been playing PF for months now, and its been very good to me. I'm interested to figure out what you might dislike it for.

And like, I hate MMORPGs as a general thing, but I do like at least the basic goals of PFO, specifically more player interaction in the story and worldbuilding. Of course, the people who get in the earliest will probably have the most effect on the world, and those people will probably be the ones who pledge $1,000+ on this Kickstarter (for $5,000 you can own a tavern! ...!!!!) so yeah, I kinda see your point on this one at least. Still, not launching til 2016, so we've got time.

i think youtube is finally kinda blocking usage of Adblock. videos that have ads have been loading insanely slow for me, but as soon as i disable adblock, everything buffers instantly

It's the video ads that bother me. I have no issue with the big picture ads on the side, or even the little popup one that you get on the bottom of videos. But yeah, the annoying video ads are the only reason I use Adblock. They should get rid of those.

the best are the ads before the video that can be skipped in 5 seconds. i hate the in-video popup ads the most because even when you minimize them theres this dumb icon permanently at the bottom of the video that you click to un-minimize the ad. like anyone is ever going to click that icon.

also i think google might boost video popularity when you enable ads. my ginger video is getting more and more traffic after enabling it 2 months back

i don't have any problems with paizo/pathfinder, i just think they're doomed. i do think the artwork sucks, and also pretty much every supplement/module i've read of theirs wasn't very good (but that's the case with all rpg companies, especially the bigger ones). i actually really liked The Kingmaker Adventure Path, although if i were running it i would make it way more open-ended and, ya know, actually a sandbox rather than a free-form quest where the same ending happens no matter what.
i sorta like the Pathfinder system, but i wouldn't run Pathfinder myself because i think
A) the rules are too complicated (this is a problem with anything derived from 3rd edition)
B) it takes too fucking long to make characters and there's too many options. Too many options ends up limiting the player, and making a character causes "option overload". there's also too much potential for power-gaming. i play infrequently and often with people who have never played an RPG before; i can't just plop the 600 page Pathfinder rulebook in front of them and be like "here ya go make a character!"
C) the default setting is not very creative. it pretty much seems like a re-skinned Greyhawk. that's not necessarily a bad thing but to me it's kind of bland
D) i think the model by which they sell books is kind of stupid and will be obsolete soon.
The Post-3rd Edition model for RPG companies to sell books is as follows:
"make a big fancy book with lots of artwork that people will be proud to display on their coffee table. boost the page-count as much as possible and give it a nice cover and we can charge 30 - 60$ for it. it worked for 3rd edition!"
the problem is, i don't need 25 40$ books that have 150 pages each and about 2 good ideas per book. i can get all that shit for free on the internet. i don't need another splatbook of racial options buried inside 4-paragraph essays on the difference between a Wild Elf and a Wood Elf. just get to the fucking point, give me some nice pictures, something i can use immediately in a game with no prep time, and some inspiration. make it 15 pages long, charge 9.99$ for it, plus you get a free pdf version and give me free license to print it myself (since i'm going to anyway). you'll still make a profit but your model will be sustainable instead of self-defeating
i think the Pathfinder system itself is solid and i could see myself having a lot of fun if i was a player in a good group though. i'm glad that there is effective competition to current holders of the Dungeons & Dragons license, but i think in the future that competition will not take the form of two relatively large companies duking it out (ie, Wizards of the Coast and Paizo). it will take the form of a huge variety of small publishers sharing the wealth

The video doesn't load up until about 3 to 5 seconds in?
