Hi there. My name is Kyle Magocs, children's lit minor with a focus in fairy/folk tales.

"Snow White" is the official title of the family of tales classified in the Aarne-Thompson folktale index. Most of them feature dwarves or some variation (robbers, knights, etc) The grimdark Snow White movie from the early 2000s (fuck me if I remember what it's called) just had 7 nasty lookin' dudes.

There is some cool imagery in that movie that is a nice nod to the spirit of classic fairy tales. In particular I recall Sigourney Weaver chasing after Snow White and toppling all of these giant stone pillars which are phallic symbols bla bla

Oh, and fuck Disney's Snow White.

My favorite tale is Prince Ivan, the Firebird, and the Grey Wolf, from the Afanasev collection of Russian Fairy Tales.

edit: Oh, and if you're interested in Snow White or fairy tales, I can't find it anywhere online quickly, but Gilbert and Gubar are two well-known feminist critics of fairy tales and wrote this awesome piece on Snow White that pulls from Bettelheim and talks about how Snow White and the stepmother are the same person, in that Snow White is destined to become the stepmother after all is said and done and repeat the cycle and just...
