10th Annual 3dmm.com Awards 2008
Space Goat's Avatar
Plot Summary:
All your votes have been tallied, and the winners are announced, in this year's annual 3dmm.com awards movie. We invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy this compilation of clips taken from 2008's list of nominees.

Finally! It's time to announce the winners of the 10th Annual 3dmm.com Awards!

Looking back on it, 2008 had several really standout movies which are likely on par with the best this community has ever produced. Although general interest in 3D Movie Maker continues to decline, there are still many wonderfully talented and dedicated people in this community who are willing to spend enormous amounts of time and effort to continue this little hobby of all of ours. I congratulate and thank everyone involved, and hope you find this montage of all our work a fitting tribute to the best of 2008.

I have embedded a vimeo version in this post, but I recommend the high-quality MP4 version instead, assuming you have the patience to download a 200mb file. To view the MP4 version, you will need a h264 decoder like Quicktime to play it. For PC users, an alternative to Quicktime that I highly recommend is Media Player Classic Home Cinema. MPC-HC comes as a standalone executable (requires no install if you download the zip version) and has the h264 codec (among many others) already "burned in" to its binaries.

Thanks for viewing, and please leave comments!

A few important notes:
  • Jesterfoot directed the introduction. Of the four awards movies I've been a part of, this introduction is definitely the most elaborate. Special thanks to him for volunteering to organize and take the time to put this together.
  • Ben Rice assisted with the introduction's animation. He is responsible for the shot of himself giving out his autograph, the shots of Tom Breed and Mczee showing up to the event, and one of the angles of Tuna and Michael walking down the red carpet.
  • Jayrod created the model of the theater, and put four of the actors in costumes (Billy, Salvador, Patrick, and Valentine).
  • Dominator Dan voiced himself (as well as a small Brad Ross cameo) with lots of room for improvisation.
  • Michael Sandford, Tom Breed, and Tuna Hematoma all wrote and voiced their own lines.
  • I had to cut "Best Community Member" from the presentation because I couldn't fit all the categories within the length of the music track I laid out. You can find the results for that category in the credits.

BEE-VISS, like Beavis and Butthead. Not Bevv-is. But it literally was JUST like that floating.

edit: I think of the 15 or so times I've been nominated in award history, I've won a total of zero times

hahaha, this is better than I'd expected.
Richard Bevis, HAHAHAHa, "apparently he's a trendy one..", that part was hilarious

I was a bit surprised that the actual awards was just like a slideshow... I just stopped watching once that started since I'm not a part of 3DMM anyway.
But the opening sure was entertaining!

Congrats to Dan, welcome to the two-time Best Movie winners club.

Thank God LOS went home with something, it was up against some serious competition. Handsome Man in Australia is a more entertaining movie, but LOS had a scope and depth that only two or three other movies can attempt to claim. McZee beat it out a few times as well, which was surprising (but shouldn't have been that surprising, in hindsight).

The intro was great, amusing and to the point, but Slade wasn't mentioned, was he? The dancing animation was hilarious, fantastic work, Jon. The tuxedos were a nice touch as well. Also, at nothing from The Big Movie being featured in the opening montage.

2008 was a great year, I had forgotten just how many good movies came out last year. Whether a last hurrah or not, there was a definite uptick in production and a lot of quality stuff to watch. Great work, everyone involved, I'm gonna have to go back and watch some of these again.

Hahahaha, the opening was god damn funny, well done to everyone who contributed to actually making this.

Congrats Dan, you piece of shit. Hahaha no but seriously, I'm happy enough to have got the movie out and finished, and been nominated, and won a category. I never even thought I'd get that far considering my usual habit when making 3dmm movies: not making them.

Also, who voted me for Best Community Member? Awww.

haha very well put together. A very strong showing by Samurai Clinton in the best community member vote I must say! and <3 <3 <3 to whoever voted for me!...unless it was me and I forgot, but I'm pretty sure I voted for Clinton! I didn't think there were any huge surprises except art design...I guess I wasn't really thinking of the photoshops in McZee as "art design" per se, but yeah, I guess they were deserving, but I thought Bevis was gonna take it easily...then he finished fourth?! I think people just aren't watching his movies...

Really liked the intro. Bevis part was the best. Good job Rice/JON STEELE. I'm kinda surprised you chose my Andres line, haha.
*is last place for everything*

Intro was awesome. The rest of it was top notch as well. I'm glad I got nominated for something, even though I never really had a shot.

For me Handsome Man was just better paced and more fun to watch. I don't want to insult Slade, because he put an assload of effort into LOS and is a great guy, but that movie really dragged on for me and felt long for length's sake. I had to watch it in multiple sittings because of it. HMIA was just nonstop fun from start to finish. But then again, I feel the same way about the LotR novels, and tons of people love those. Not saying LOS was bad, it just wasn't for me. Sorry, Slade.

But man, that was funnier than expected. The Clinton and Bevis parts had me dying. Great work!

Thanks to everyone who voted McZee for stuff! Like Phil said I was equally as surprised about art design. As much as Dan did a great job with the voices I though Dustin did a great job as the narrator, though I'm a bit biased.

Yeah I wanted to feature Slade somwhere considering he had released the biggest movie. I had originally planned to have him interviewed. There's a list of other things I would've included if I had more time to work on it.

Thanks for the comments guys

W00t for best short!

Yeah, comparing the voice work from McZee and Dan's stuff was hard. On the one hand, the McZee voices were so professional and such an integral part of why the movie worked so well, but on the other hand Dan did so many and had his ability to do so many different-sounding voices working to his advantage. But of course comparing McZee to other movies was a challenge in every category, since it was hardly even a 3dmm movie at all.

hahaha thank FUCK i voted for LoS for best movie and slade for best director myself, otherwise I would feel like absolute shit, MAYBE YOU SHOULDA FIXED THAT BIT IN LOS WHERE THEY TALK AND THE HAND GOES THROUGH THE BALCONY THIS IS WHY YOU DIDN'T WIN SLADE

this was put together amazingly, although tuna's voice was a lot easier to hear compared to everyone elses, MAYBE HE SHOULDA WON BEST VOICE ACTOR

MAN the best community thing at the end, i had forgotten about that and then i saw my name at the top i was like OH GODD, haha it's popularity survivor all over again, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE SECOND BEST AARON HAYNES? AGAIN? haha that said I don't think I swept the awards as successfully as Redux/Vlarion did, YOU THE MAN

i love you guys
