I find it difficult to express how much I enjoy Brad Ross’s movies.
Brad may not have had a great time of things recently especially getting robbed, all I can say is thank fuck that Magic 2 survived. I had a feeling that this could never quite live up to the first Magic and I was right. The first Magic had parts that made me laugh so much it hurt, but Magic 2 despite not being so side splittingly funny is still another work of genius. The fact that Brad had the idea of recording his dad and uncle watching the rugby and turns it into a dialogue for two characters is already genius to me, without even thinking about the rest of the movie. The first thing you notice and are entertained by, is the seamless animation and soundtrack. Brad has put them together (nearly) perfectly. Brad obviously has a very wide music taste covering a lot genres, this helps him dig out songs to use in the movie to create funny little moments. I struggle to think of any other Director that does this so well, Dan dabbles in it but its less sutil. The only thing that stopped it from being perfect in my opinion was the Foo Fighters song at the end. The way the fight scenes have been animated has also stepped up a notch. I remember Brad taking an interest in how Lord Radis animated limbs in his movies and now the same sort of thing has appeared in Magic 2. This makes the movements far more believable and makes 3dmm look far from dated. This applies especially to the boxing match with “Big Willy” and all the sword fighting scenes. It is true that some of the backgrounds were maybe not up to par especially after some of the things Chippy and Richard Bevis have done recently, although I personally don’t think this matters a whole lot. Slightly dodgy looking props and animation add to my perception that Brad Ross is a person that he does not take things to seriously and would rather add a funny joke somewhere than make sure all the scenes and animation was totally perfect. As far as my favourite moments in the movie go, I also laughed at loud at the “fuckin fuckin fuck fuck” part, for some reason the word “fuck” in an Australian accent is far funnier than in an English or American. It’s also possibly because I like the Chopper Read sketches so much. I was also delighted to see Prof Spaz in the movie, how the hell he got hold of Andrew Metcalf to do the voice I have no idea, but it fitted in well and was a break from the action, slowed things down a bit. Over all I was just left wanting more, another part to the movie lasting 15-20 min’s would suit me fine! I also hope that more 3dmm.com members pay more attention to brad’s movie and give it a short review in the movie thread. I was pretty horrified to see that Clintons crap recycling movie at one point had more replies and different members posting in the thread than Brads. That’s pretty piss poor guys, I mean come on! You don’t even need 3dmm to watch this movie! After all Brads hard work he deserves more credit and viewers from the 3dmm community, same goes for a lot of good movies. Anyway rant over, nice one Brad I hope to see the next part one day... |
