How to Create a Screenshot from 3D Movie Maker

I'm getting frustrated by the lack of screenshots on some of the movies posted in our database recently, so in case it is simply due to ignorance, I've made this quick tutorial.

For this tutorial, I will be using MS Paint, since it comes with Windows. If you have third-party graphics editing software, then feel free to use it instead.
  1. Open 3D Movie Maker, and go to the frame in the scene you wish to create a screenshot of.
  2. Press Alt+Print Screen on your keyboard.
  3. Open MS Paint (Start→Programs→Accessories→Paint).
  4. Go to Edit→Paste (Ctrl+V).
  5. Click on the "Select" icon from the tool menu.
  6. Draw a rectangle around the viewing area in 3D Movie Maker. This doesn't need to be exact, but I do ask that you maintain something close to a 16:9 aspect ratio (wide-screen) so that the thumbnails generated on 3dmm.com will have a consistent height and width. FYI, 3D Movie Maker has a default viewing area of 544x306 pixels, which is a perfect 16:9 aspect ratio. The top left corner of the viewing area should start at pixel 56,128.
  7. Go to Edit→Copy (Ctrl+C).
  8. Go to File→New. Don't save changes if prompted.
  9. Go to Edit→Paste (Ctrl+V).
  10. If necessary, crop the picture by dragging the bottom right corner up and to the left so that there is no extra white-space showing.
  11. Go to File→Save. Set the "Save as type" to JPEG, and save your JPG file.
  12. Attach your JPG file via the "Manage Attachments" button on the "Post New Thread/Edit Post" page.
