Oh my GOD I had no idea that Warren was gay. Then again, I hardly ever spoke to you. Congratulations ++ on getting married, my friend! I'm sorry it seems like it's going to be ended though. That breaks my heart.

As for Mr. Clough, I think the reason why Adam has difficulty understanding the effects of this is because as a white, middle class 18-30 year old male, the chances of him suffering from serious discrimination is low. That's not an insult, by the way.

I'm not white, I've had my share growing up, but it's basically a non issue once you're older. I just think love is the bigger picture in this situation and everyone isn't seeing forrest for all the leaves.
I'm asking questions to get some discussion going and hear what Warren has to say on it since he didn't elaborate the first time.

why are these sorts of things still open to being changed around? homosexuality has been recognised for thousands of years and we're still unneccesarily limiting gay people?

good job world.

edit: stop being dumb, clough. Obviously people don't stop loving each other, it's about being deemed inferior by the state. Unfit to be married like real people.

They'll lose the legal advantages that comes with being married.

Why the hell is keeping marriage heterosexual so important to people? Why should they even care if two of the same sex are married?

It's one thing that some church don't want gays to get married (even though I don't think a religious group should be allowed to take care of that sort of legal thing. It should just be civil), but when the state put a ban on it, it's just sad.

Good luck to you and your husband, Warren.

Yeah, seriously, what does "You are not allowed to have a different opinion or outlook here" even mean?

(I like how our avatars and sigs are kinda similar)

I'm pretty happy that it passed and there's no gay marriage there. I'm not for gay marriage.

Hey I just woke up...And yeah Cade thanks...but I'm in Canada...we're safe.

Adam I don't think you're an idiot or anything but I just don't think you can understand what this is like. I am tired of being viewed as a second class citizen in my own country. I feel much more comfortable in Canada.

You were asking if there is still discrimination in Cananda too I believe...yeah. There is discrimination everywhere. I'm not a flaming homosexual and we don't stand at a street corner making out and BLOWING EACH other. But sometimes even if we are just holding hands and walking together, people shout stuff out. About a month before we got married, we were looking for apartments together, and when the people thought we were brothers or friends they were cool, but when we wanted to look at the one bedroom apartments, they started getting really weird and disconeccted. It was obvious they didn't want us there.

So I'm not going to lose my marriage thank God. But I feel Proposition 8 still effects me very much as a person. So uh...yeah I hope you can somehow understand what I mean now man.

That is true. Then we went to a gay bar after called Zeldas, and I had a drink called a "bitch slap".

I doubt that's true. The amendment doesn't say anything about civil unions with the same benefits as marriage. All it's likely to do is strip away the actual "marriage" title - I can't imagine California not issuing civil unions either.

And Spencer, you're not helping your reputation here as a fool by repeatedly coming into threads, saying something completely opposed to what everyone else is saying, and then not backing it up or even bothering to explain.

I don't get that. For a lot of people, it isn't a marriage if God isn't involved. Marriage is a contract between two individuals with God as the officiator. You simply can't take God out of marriage because it is, in fact, a religious ceremony and is a religious concept.

I would say that it's the state which should have no say in marriage. A state should only be able to grant civil unions, ie a contract between two individuals with the state as officiator. A state has no authority to grant a marriage contract because it is a secular authority. No state has the authority to create a compact between men and God.

Of course the real problem here is that a lot of insurance agencies, banks, gov't programs, etc give more benefits to a contract called "marriage" than one called a "civil union" which is discriminatory and has to change.

That does suck that it passed.
Arizona passed prop 102 for the second time which did the same thing as prop 8

The pro-campaign advertising was very misleading. They sold it as a parental issue, threatening that children would be forcibly taught things parents didn't want, etc. Scare tactics.
