I don't have anything against abstract movies as long as they have a certain idea going for them. Unfortunately, the latest short from Scott Walenty (better known as Pizza the Hut) falls flat on its face, precisely because of the lack of one.
It is a shame, because (at least atmospherically) he does get the first ten seconds or so right. At this point I do wonder what this is all about, and I am curious to know in which direction the director will take it from here. But rather than giving us something to work with, the director ends it. It is not about trying to make sense of it all, but I wish there was something there to make me feel anything or give me an impression of some kind. The only impression I got was that the director ran out of time and/or ideas. It's like a balloon deflating from the very first second you get it and I don't know where I am going with this awful analogy, but I guess my point is that nor did this movie know where it was going, making it hard for me to appreciate what is there. Sorry. 2/10 Originally posted on IN THE SPOTLIGHT. |
