My Dad cares more about MY dog then the rest of his family. He didn't speak to me for like three days after I forgot to walk the dog one afternoon.

- He used to work in a coal mine when he was about 19, at the "face" which is like the most dangerous bit.

- There's a big story about something during the Miner's strike in the 80's that somehow got him noticed and promoted a lot. A big story I've never really been told in full.

- Now his last 3 jobs in the last 20 years have all been management.

- Cooks awesome curries, but listens to music way too loud while doing it.

- ...Awful music. Like Bryan Adams and The Darkness.

- Basically he grew up working class but managed to secure himself and all of us a really good middle-class white-bread life which I'm really grateful for.

- Really good at golf. Keeps getting invited to join golf clubs but won't because he really dislikes the upper class.

My dad was the local skateboarding champion of our town when he was in his late teens. He uses his nickname 'Skate' as internet usernames everywhere.

My dad's hobby is 'Geo-Caching'. A complete underworld of treasure-hunting that takes place across the world. Tiny boxes/film pots/whatever (lol hi bown) are hidden by people (anybody can) and through the online website that governs it they give out the co-ordinates of the area they've hidden it in, along with a clue they have to decipher from a re-configured alphabet. Some hunts go on through several stages and several prizes and in some dangerously popular areas (you're not supposed to show or tell people about it at all, they have to discover it for themselves - OOPS). They call people who don't know about Geo-caching 'muggles'.

My dad has long since split up with my mum and has now got back together with his old school sweetheart even in his late 40s (I never know how old my dad is, do you?).

My dad did LSD once in some forest, back in the years when he actually had hair. He said the veins on the back of his hand started to morph into diamond shapes, and lizard/chameleons started appearing out of the trees everywhere 'n shit.

On my dad's third attempt at passing his driving test (a loooong time ago), he was told at the end that he performed well enough to pass, but was failed by a cunt of an examiner because my dad was a man with long hair and he hated that.

Mm, it's a shame my dad's never been a violent type at all. But then again this instructor told him that there was no way he could prove that he said that, afterall, so he just had to accept it and try again. He cut his hair for the 4th test (and passed) but it was a different guy.

my dad:

- designs and coordinates corporate and high-roller events for the Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, the Mirage, and all of the hotels owned by MGM/Mirage (all the good ones)
- was making minimum wage when i was born
- built a very successful event business from scratch which reinvented the bar mitzvah and wedding industry in L.A (before him, it was pretty much all balloons and confetti) and then sold it
- went to Berkeley college of music in Boston where he was a ridiculously good jazz bass musician. he dropped acid and jammed with his professors.
- played bass on a cruise liner for a year and blew all his money on "debauchery"
- had a brief stint in real estate

My dad:

Grows red facial hair. But shaves it.

Has a poor sence of fasion. Wears oversized t-shirts, cut-off cargo pants and sandals.

Get's stressed out really easily and he won't stop being frustrated for at least 24 hours.

Acknoledges that japanese cars are better but still only buys Ford.

Plays alot of strategy games. But is the most annoying turtle player ever. He will create a line of impenetrable defenses and build 10 scud storm silos. Yes, this is C&C Generals. His favorite game is Red Alert 2.

Has been with three women, had a kid with all of them. I'm 2nd. My brother is 1st and is 22.

Makes a bomb breakfast. Probably unhealthy as shit, but every sunday or so I can find him making a nice plate of hash browns, bacon, and ommlets with three kinds of cheese, salsa, and various other ingredients. Other than that he is overall a pretty good cook.

[Continued] He's pretty good at it, but all he ever makes for dinner is tacos, spaggetti, or nachos. He also makes porkchops but he's pretty shit at it in my opinion.

Probably the worst procrastinator in the world. Holds things off until the very last moment until he'll say to me "let's do it tomarrow". And most of the time he'll blame everything except himself. He even once said to me that it was my fault that he didn't become a geologist like he wanted because I was concieved and he settled for a lesser job. He took it back a year later though, so its cool.

But the job he took was pretty good. He's a civil engineer. He's kinda been desperate for a job so he's underpaid, but he was once making 90k a year at one point. He's pretty damn good at it too.

Very politcally, socially, and economically savy. Also knows a HUGE amount about history. He's very calm and fairly wise. I'm very grateful to have a role-model and teacher like him.

Married a Russian woman. Seriously, met a Russian online and brought her over here. For some reason my dad and my older brother couldn't see what I saw in her, which was bad news. She was 28, she didn't want to work, she complained, slept until noon, openly stole money from my dad's wallet for no reason, (bunch of other minor stuff), and started a fight with my dad at WORK two years ago. AT HIS WORK. He lost his job because of that. She's gotten better and they live together in the bay area. From time to time he regrets his decision to bring her here but I can't bring myself to say "I told you so."

Played almost every sport possible in high school and college. He played football, tennis, baseball, and cross-country running. He also tried out for other sports. He's always been a good athletic instructor.

Has skin problems. His skin looks like that of one of those things on a rooster's head. It's red and loose. Mostly because of sensitive skin and consistant sun exposure and lack of sunblock. His doctor says he cannot go into the sunlight at all now without sunblock or his condition will worsen even more.

Was in good shape for a while, but he's put on about 20-30 pounds. He has man tits

When his Russian wife was bein' a bitch and all other kinds of shit was happening (this was before the eventual job loss). He still hung in there and went to work and did his best to improve the situation. I took it for granted how hard he tried to make us a good living. Now I look back and am so grateful for the things he did.

Is one of those guys with silent-but-deadly gas, usually trapped between bedsheets when he sleeps.

Cannot follow instructions that involve names or serial numbers of the like. Just a while back, I made a point that I needed a specific new motherboard (i told him the name), thinking that he could remember the name of the board, he ordered the wrong one

On occasion, has been deceptive. He swore to me that he would stay married to my mom and his trip to Russia was just to see the land. Three weeks later my parents seperated. A year later, I got pissed at my dad and said if he brought the Russian girl here I would move in with my mom. So he convinced me that he would just bring her here on a 30-day licease and if I didn't like her I could send her packing. Well about two weeks after she got here my dad announced at a "family" dinner that they got married that afternoon. I asked him about it later and admitted he was just lying to get me to stay.

Believes in Karma. Too much I think.

Loves coffee.

Eats alot, and eats late at night and does not brush his teeth at night. Last summer his teeth were fucking disgusting. I'll post a pic later.

Overall a good guy that I love spending time with I admire. Even if he does have his flaws. He's my favorite parent, which drives my mom crazy

Okay, i'm gonna start taking this thread seriously:

My friend Frank insists to this day, that one time, while he was alone with my dad when we were like 14 or 15, my dad told him that he was in a 'country-western band' when he was a teenager. I swear to god that man has never been in a country-western band. I've never asked my dad about it, fearing that he'll get really embarrassed and angry. Plus, he'll probably just deny ever saying it so it'd be a waste of time.

My dad once tried to break down homosexuality to me in the following words, "What happens is, men love men just as friends, but then they get confused and start having sex with eachother."
