Plot Summary:
Redux DVD Edition
Aaron Haynes and Gorosaurus Created over the last two months of 2004 and released at the end of the Winter Film Fest, on January 8, 2005. Everything is as it was on that release (though Ramza's "soundtrack" has been trimmed out for space as well as a few other things). I've also added a few scans of pages I used to jot down story ideas, a loose plot framework, coordinate information, and one storyboard, for the window sequence, which gave me enough frustration in plotting it that I had to draw it out -Aaron Original Release Thread

There was still a deadline, but we weren't spreading ourselves thin trying to shape and polish three entire acts. We were free to expand on the parts of the film that were most interesting to us. REDUX is such an easy movie to create an extended cut for, because the edges of its canvas unfold at will just by wondering what's happening offscreen. Part of the payoff of creating and juggling so many storylines at once, especially in Acts I and II, is that at any point you can ask "what's this character doing at this time?" or "what else might've been happening in this scene?" We could've kept going on this for months, just retooling and expanding on it, revealing more of the world and its rules happening just off the edge of the 3DMM workspace. Goro: This became the very first interactive DVD released on Youtube. Video annotations allow users to link between movies on Youtube, and I felt that this was a perfect opportunity to bring REDUX to a larger audience. Recording and converting every file in relation to REDUX DVD (in upwards of 10-15 times to perfect certain framerates) really brought certain aspects of the movie to light for me. Memories of creating scenes and the symbolism behind some flushed back to me. Certain areas of the Original cut still make me cringe with then-cut corners, yet I can still appreciate it as both an achievement and a more concise story. I found out that my favorite parts were not those scenes that took entire weeks to construct, but rather those where the music and the visuals worked together to bring certain feelings to the forefront. I would recommend that you watch the Original Cut of REDUX once again as it nears its fifth year. It is hard to appreciate the nuances of the Extended Edition without that sort of renewed familiarity. And just as before, we both made this movie as a tribute to some of the most talented directors in the community's history, as well as to those characters and concepts they previously explored. We certainly appreciate every comment, new and old, and are anxious to hear just what you got out of REDUX. |
