This review contains minor spoilers.
The story is as simple as it can get. A robber steals a box and gets arrested. Many years later, there is a chase to find the stolen box. Why? Because it contains a fat load of money. It works. It is easy to follow, and it suits the fast pace of the movie. The simplicity of the story is not the only thing that works though, as In the Box succeeds in many different levels. Like the speed. Collins directed it so that it gets straight to the point pretty much straight away. Almost everything shown here is relevant, cutting out a lot of unnecessary conversations and scenes. The frantic pace of it all makes you more engrossed into the movie, and it is compelling indeed to watch. The dialogue also works, being short, to-the-point, and clear. It backs up the hare-like pace of In the Box, and it certainly suits the movie. We are given just about enough to go on, no more, no less. It does not try to be a mind-boggling, in-depth drama, nor does it try to be a pointless, random action movie, and the director succeeds in creating the right feel to it all, finding the medium. I also enjoyed a few, fairly unique camera effects, especially the car crash. They were very nicely done and even now it is rare to see something like this appearing in movies. The majority of the music was nicely chosen, and it captured the frantic pace very well. It matched up to the simplicity of the scenery. The use of cubes and cylinders all contributed to the 'rush' feeling, and this is again where In the Box succeeds. The story, dialogue, camera effects, music and scenery all build up the pace, and the final effect? They all combine to create one of the most exciting, thrilling, eye-popping movies ever to grace the 3DMM community. It is a shame that Collins has stopped making movies, as I feel these type of movies are what we need more of. If I had to describe why I liked this movie in three words, I would simply say "it just clicks". In the Box is short and sweet, with a runtime of barely over five minutes, and it should entertain you throughout. There is not much to fault. Voices are above par, the camera angles are sweet, and the animations get the thumbs up from me. The only negative point I really have is its sudden, abrupt ending, but it is forgivable, as you will see when you get round to watching it. So, what are you waiting for? In the Box is a unique movie, very different to pretty much every other one you see released nowadays. We need more of these kind of movies. Now. Score: 88/100 |
