Hmm, there's not much to say about a competition. Get people to sign up, make the competitors animate something, find a couple of judges, and make a movie out of it. It's pretty pointless, yes, and there's something inside me which says that watching this is a waste of time, but I didn't mind this at all. In fact, watching the first round of the Fight Scene Competition was rather enjoyable.
Basically, in this competition, entrants were supposed to make a fight scene. Three people judge the scenes and they each give a grade. The final grade is an average of the three. It's that simple. The first couple of fight scenes were pretty good, with Denny Betterman standing out. The wide variety of actors' actions were used to great effect. I also liked Mr. Mong's entry, but he has some work to do if he is to produce something to beat Denny. Unfortunately the final few weren't as impressive, especially the 'joke' entry. No, I didn't find it funny, and yes, I thought that scene was a complete waste of time. It was no surprise that this particular entry got a pathetic grade. What would I rather watch? An in-depth engrossing movie or a rather pointless competition with entrants who don't really give a damn? I know which one I'd go for, any day, but still, this wasn't too bad. What do I mean by that? Well, a movie can't be that disappointing if you are anticipating the sequel, or in this case, the next round. Overall, this is nothing to admire or praise, but if you have some time to kill, you might as well watch this. It can give you some ideas on how to animate fights, or perhaps you'd rather switch your brain off for that period of time to sit back and smile. Score: 68/100 |
