The Bird Sanctuary
Hey Mikey Pictures's Avatar
Go to movie
An evil canary Bobo, created by Dr. B. Hackenbush was accidently set loose onto an unsuspecting town. Along with the Doctor, the police force and a pot selling business man named Tarbash try to put a stop to Bobo's reign of terror.

Some directors just OWN their genre, and for many years, the owner of the comedy genre in the 3dmm community has been Tuna Hematoma. Tuna's movies are not only consistently hilarious, they're also original to the point where you can't help but think "Where the hell does he come up with this stuff?!". Take his movie "Semsatia" for instance- its funniest jokes centered around a green german guy with breast implants. Also, there was "Ding Dong and Dum Dum", which was all about a crazy asian guy challenging someone to a street race for looking at his sister's underpants. Either Tuna is a comedic genious, or he has something seriously wrong with him. His latest release, "The Bird Sanctuary" (made with his friend Heavy J, who also helped him with the classic "Nu-jit-su Man 2") continues in this trend in that it's both wierd beyond belief, and funny as hell!

"The Bird Santuary" tells the story of a mad scientist and his ambiguosly gay lab assistant, and their efforts to turn a pet bird named "Bobo" into an unstoppable killing machine. Really, the story doesn't make all that much sense, but that's okay, because it doesn't ever really try to make sense. This is a movie centered completely around making you laugh with the most ridiculous and utterly pointless jokes you can imagine, and it suceeds in doing that. For some reason, something that wouldn't be funny anywhere else is hilarious in one of Tuna's movies. There are some jokes that are so predictable, you could have guessed them from the start if all you knew was the basic concept of the movie, but the comedic timing is so perfect it STILL makes you burst out laughing when it happens. For instance, there's one joke that I guessed the punchline too as soon as it began, where "Bobo" craps in a kid's hamburger. I don't know why, but for some reason, as obvious as the joke was, when the kid takes a bite and yells Tuna's signature hugely overacted "NOOO!!!", I started cracking up! Tuna is a genious- and if it was Heavy J that did that section, then....I guess Heavy J is a genious and Tuna is a loser.

If you look at the animation in this movie and assume the whole thing was pretty half-assed....well...you would probably be right. Obviously not much effort was put into making this movie visually "up to par". Then again, who really cares? "Comedy" is a great genre to work in, because it's the only place you can use a default scene and it actually works for your movie. Still, it would have been cool to see "Semsatia" quality animation, but if it makes me laugh, I don't really care what it looks like. Not to say that the handmade character animation isn't amazing...I mean...the bird blinks...MY GOD!

I gotta say, the sound category is really where it's at in this movie. Without the great voices, this wouldn't be half as funny. Both Tuna and Heavy J are great comedic voice actors, and once again almost every line is funny. I mean, how could you not like a movie with lines like "ACTIVATE DEATH MODE ON THE KITTY CAT!" and "*with horrible hindu accent* I was just slapped by a 6 armed goddess, and I tell you, that is not a walk in da park.". But obviously the lines are gonna be awesome, I mean, this is the guy that brought such immortal lines to the community as "THAT'S NOT MAH BACON!?" (by the way, if you don't say that line with the voice, you're a jerk). Also, the arnold impression is great- every movie should have one. As far as the rest of the sound category goes, it's nothing incredible- but once again, it doesn't really have to be.

At the end of the day, I still like "Ding Dong and Dum Dum", and of course "Semsatia" better as far as Tuna movies go. This might not be a new timeless classic or anything, but it will definately make you laugh. If that's all you want, then there's really no reason to not give this movie a download. It's classic pointless Tuna Hematoma humour, and it's funny enough to be worth at least a 80% out of 100%...since...y'know...I have to rate stuff or I'll get slapped around by other, much better reviewers. If you like Tuna's particular brand of humour, you would be crazy to miss this one.
