3DMM Evil Episode 06
by Zaps
Go to movie
2005, Movie, Comedy, Directed by Klaymen
The sixth and most current episode in the series. Disclaimer: If you're expecting interviews, this episode isn't for you. If you enjoy the humor of the show or are just looking for a laugh, come on in.

I was really looking forward to this and had high expectations, but now that I've watched this episode twice, I'm still not sure what to make of it. There's no doubt that it's better than the first one, I can establish that, but such drastic changes have been made, and I'm a little undecided as to whether I like them as a whole. So what "drastic changes" am I talking about? Well, Episode 6 separates itself from all the other episodes primarily because of one thing: the complete lack of interviews. Yep, that's right, Klaymen has decided to leave out the popular interviews out of this episode. If you read the end credits, in which he explains why he did this, I suppose you can understand from his point of view. It can't be that fun animating two whole, lengthy interviews each episode, but is it wise to leave them out altogether considering that they are possibly the reason why many of us watch the series? I was a bit skeptical about his decision, but despite Klaymen taking this big risk, this episode still stands surprisingly quite strong on its own.

The driving force behind this episode is the story, and it goes something like this: Klaymen and Willie have a limited budget for their next 3DMM Evil Episode, and the whole show sees them trying to sort this problem out, by attempting to redecorate, and then trying to earn more money by starting a new sitcom. There are some laughs and some genuinely great moments, and it's right up there with the previous 3DMM Evil stories, such as Klaymen running away from the police, but at times, it dragged on a little bit. The sitcom, funny to start off with, got duller the more I saw of it, and as the movie progressed, I couldn't help but want an interview more. Just one would make me happy and could have perhaps boosted the final score up by five, or maybe even ten, points. For this reason, I think this is only marginally better than the fifth episode. While the interviews were Episode 5's saving grace, the humour is 6's, and admittedly I did enjoy this one a little bit more, partly because this was very slightly more watchable, and partly because because 6 didn't have any lame skits like the previous did. Speaking of skits, Russ Stepan did a pretty decent one titled "Drama Movie x 10^24", which was amusing most of the time.

OK, I'm going to be honest, I didn't think that a story-driven 3DMM Evil Episode would work, but it did, even though I'm still unsure about it. Episode 6 heavily relied on getting some laughs instead of producing interesting information, and although I missed the one-to-one conversations, the story wasn't all that bad, and I did laugh a couple of times and smiled a few more other times. But there is obviously still so much room for improvement, and it's debatable whether Klaymen can continue to improve in the next few episodes, should he continue to keep this 3DMM Evil format, so I'm going to suggest that if Klaymen is going to stick to it, maybe he should slip in just one interview to keep some people happy, like me, and to break up the story a little. Initially disappointed, and still am I guess when you look back at my expectations for Episode 6, I can kind of appreciate why Klaymen chose to change paths, and despite my skepticism, I still have faith in him to produce more goods in the next episode, whether if it's another story-driven one, an interview-dominant show, or a mixture of both.
