3DMM Evil Episode 04
by Zaps
Go to movie
2004, Movie, Comedy, Directed by Klaymen
The second breakthrough episode. Episode 4, released into the 04 winter film fest, was noticed much more than previous episodes and the plot incorporation became more significant as the interviews played into it. Featuring: Orcus, Denny Betterman, 'Skitch,' and 'Ramza Brave'.

This review contains minor spoilers.

Since the first episode, 3DMM Evil has evolved a lot, most notably the design and layout of the show and the actual content. Each episode, 3DMM Evil has gone from strength to strength, and credit to Klaymen, Episode 3 was great. Now Klaymen has gone and tried out new things with Episode 4, involving his recent police incident, but has it paid off? Fortunately yes. In fact, it's a nice change. You see, instead of being confined just in the interview room, Klaymen, along with his friend Willie Trombone, are trying to escape the wrath of the police, and it's all good fun.

I really liked 3DMM Evil Episode 3 because, for me, the interviews shone out and I really enjoyed the side-story with Klaymen trying to retrieve his prized possession. Go and see it if you haven't done so already. Episode 4 takes it one step further with the side-story, taking place completely away from the studio. What's the story? Well, early on in this episode, we see Klaymen escaping from the prison with the help of Willie Trombone, and the rest of the story sees the pair trying to avoid the police, and it is certainly entertaining. I even found myself laughing at some points.

The interviews, to match the theme of this nicely-crafted episode, take place while Klaymen is on the run. The change in scenery is welcome and refreshing, and the director has made this work well. The guests this episode are James Quicksell (Orcus) and Denny Betterman, and as ever, I enjoyed their interviews. James' interview revolved a lot on Moderately Confused, which is sure to please those who have seen and enjoyed one of the latest giant movies. The questions on Denny were perhaps not as engrossing, but nevertheless still entertaining, discussing his current projects and such. There wasn't as much randomness in these interviews this time around, which was a slight shame, but on the plus side, more content is provided in these interviews.

There are a few skits lying around in each 3DMM Evil episode, and here is no exception. I did not find many amusing, but despite this, I still thought it was a good idea to add them in this episode, to break up the mini-story and interviews. The main highlight of the skits was probably Gustave's, which boasts a couple of nicely done hand-made characters. I haven't seen much of his work, but I'd like to see more of it in the near future. But even including that particular skit, on the whole, all of the skits were nothing special, still not up to the quality of the better skits of Skitzophrenia, but this is only a tiny part of 3DMM Evil.

At the end of the day, this is inevitably going to be compared to episode three, and it does outshine it in quite a few categories. But episode three still has its strong points. I felt the interviews in episode four weren't as good as ones in the previous episode, and I remember laughing more times in number three, but that said, this episode has the slight edge, I feel. Klaymen took a risk with his new ideas and they worked. I admit I had doubts when I heard it was based around his incident with the police, but all of them were swept away as I sat back and enjoyed the movie, and I hope to see yet another addictive side-story in the next 3DMM Evil. I'm not scoring this much higher than the third one, seeing as it does not outdo episode three by much, but like I said, number four has the edge. Looking forward to 3DMM Evil Episode 5, Klaymen!
