When I made liquid sunshine, people complained about its runtime. Some people even chose to point out that it loses some of its impact because of its short nature. These people apparently haven't seen Maybe Next Year, a short in the best sense of the word that very definitely hits it home. What makes Maybe Next Year a really good film is the way it is done. Highly cinematic, excellently constructed and well thought out, and coming from the director who claims scenery isn't important. That may be so but the movie certainly doesnt skimp on eye candy. To say anything really deep about the movie would spoil it completely, except that whether Storch is approaching a domestic issue or simply delivering a harsh message really is left up to the viewer. To me he's achieved both effects admirably.
