Pirates- The Cut-Throats Treasure
Jon Barton's Avatar
Go to movie
Set in 1716, the year of which Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy was sent out to find and kill BlackBeard the pirate, he joins with Freeman (Tuna Hematoma) on a rip roaring adventure on the high seas, with Apfigur, Buz Von Lurt, Getysburg, Gustave and Cody Pitman..

After watching a collection of well-crafted trailers, and oserving audience feedback, I thought I better give this one a look-see. While I wasn't disappointed, it's a shame that Pirates doesn't do anything new, or at least give us anything that hasn't been seen before. to his credit though, Buzvolurt's debut is original, witty and often very funny, and the action scenes aren't too shabby either, with some very well crafted sword fights and camera angles.
The main problem Ifound when watching is that I had an overwhelming feeling of deja vu. not because this has been done before but because for all its strengths, Pirates is not without its loopholes. The narrative is sometimes difficult to follow, the scenery is mediocre (but a lot better than quite a number of movies today) and the humour seems to be spread across the movie in a way that mixes comedy and action with an uneven balance. I enjoyed the movie, and its worth every bit of your attention, as its a very solid movie, action-packed an entertaining, and a very good start to Buz's career. That and Pirates is without a doubt a lot better than you expect, and a lot better than a good many movies released over the past six months. A shame then, that the movie is only good, and not fantastic.

Pirates is a a solid example of the genre, boasting good animation, good narrative and an amiable cast. Buz has done himself proud with this little number. You won't be disappointed, but don't expect to be challenged either. This movie defines fun.
