The sequel onslaught continues with VGN2, the new offering from Mike Belfance. but its a rareity that a concept could be improved every way possible, and the movie does just that, improving on it's outdated predecessor with remarkable fluidity and accuracy.
The movie is a great cultural reference, building primarily on the games we've all played in our uncouth youth, such as GoldenEye, Smash Bros., Pokemon (with a hilarious subtitle) and Bomberman to name a few. not only this but the guys even take a time out to visit the Atari universe, which is not only funny but very well balanced in clever, both in structure and atmosphere. Heavily influenced by just laugh a minute Hot shots! humour, Mike and Justin take time to establish long running jokes while making most of the short-lived once to great comic effect. Balanced with great visuals and a good soundtrack, you watch this, and you realise how far 3dmm must have come to improve on the generally half arsed, but still great fun first installment. Great gags, great animations and very well rounded entertainment value. Everything a good sequel should do. |
