Say what you want, but this movie's portrayal of blacks isn't very flattering.

Hahahah, I was kind of stunned when I first saw it. Redwampa's filmography consists largely of putting cute HMC characters into some of the darkest, most lowbrow stuff ever.

Oh Redwampa, you can do no wrong. If you don't love a movie about a killer snowman than you hate fun.

Redwampa has this reputation of making Pixar-esque animation extravaganzas featuring cute characters, but if you look more closely, most of what he did was as violent and wacky and immature as anyone in the community. The black people jokes here are the prime example, no one is going to expect that in a Wampa film. The dance instructor bit had a great payoff with the twitching leg joke, and the final moment that smashcuts to the credits is fun as well.

What Redwampa did with HMCs is pretty subtle, especially in this movie -- there's not a ton of real animation, it tends to be gestures, head tilts, or bullet-time. He gets away with the promise of action without a ton of real action. The Snowman is billed as a short, but it's a long one at 10 minutes, and its scenery and effects are pretty simple which I'm sure helped get it out the door quickly. It's a little unfocused, from the deleted scenes we see the dramatic elements Redwampa was working with adding to it, but I think the silly version was probably better. Surprisingly less violent than his other movies, NUTS and TH2 had some really dark moments that outpace anything we see here. A fun bit of fluff often forgotten amongst the classics everyone remembers.
