This is one of the most intriguing 3dmm series i've seen.

it's like he had 5 different ideas for a movie and just sort of mashed them all together in the same series. i enjoyed the first couple episodes, mainly because seeing such a big, ambitious plot was a refreshing change from what's normally released. but after a few episodes, the plot becomes so convoluted and so many different side-plots, characters, and elements are introduced that it quickly becomes impossible to keep track of everything.

still, these movies have a certain charm to them. it reminded me of the kind of movies that people who just joined the community would post, not cause they're bad, but rather because they have this weird unique style that comes from not being exposed to the kinds of movies other people are making. it gives it a sort of innocence, which is complemented by the fact that he clearly took this movie pretty seriously and that it looks like it was made in 1997 (these aren't necessarily good things).

there were some pretty neat ideas in this, but after three or four episodes it just seems like he started pulling a billion ideas out of his ass and throwing them all in. some of the stories i thought were really interesting and would probably have made good standalone movies. a lot of the story and plots were pretty annoying though, especially the actual Deus Ex Machina element. that REALLY was a bad idea for this movie. a long, plot-oriented movie with not much going on in the animation department has to rely on having both an engaging plot, and a consistent tone. most of this series has a serious tone, and you could tell the director was taking his work pretty seriously. so when you thrown in a silly, dumb plot concept like the Deus Ex Machina one, that really takes away from the movie.

5.5/10

i did enjoy watching it for the most part, but i don't think it was because it was good. i dunno, it's weird. i'm still not completely sure how i feel about it.

I watched this series a while back (there's a playlist here btw) and have to agree on most points. It was really charming seeing such an ambitious little series appear so relatively recently, developed in its own little void. Its meta-concepts about the 3DMM World were pretty neat and it had an engaging little story going on... until it felt like it was still trying to establish things by the fourth episode, with very little getting accomplished.
In this part it introduces the Doraemon, Nickelodeon and Frankie Worlds, and I'm thinking to myself "for fuck's sake, wrap this up already." There's hints of good ideas in there, but by this point it's just introduced so much crap it's hard to see the good stuff.

Worth watching though, especially on 3x speed.
