That was nice from an emotional point of view. I had a few problems with the presentation in that the 2D backgrounds aren't as convincing as the wagon.
Could it be concievable to have a layered sort of background, where they were placed at different levels to have abit more depth? Sort of along the lines of the stop sign earlier in the movie.
I like the style, I'm just interested to see it grow.

That was my original intention, and that's always what I've done with this style before. But again, I cut a lot of corners in the name of time.

I love layering, generally

wow, great movie, very creative animation. I never even thought about blending images and animation like that. It turned out amazing. Makes me want to animate something.

I didn't really like the song though.

9/10

That was excellent, and finally I get a chance to see this style you've been leaning toward for the past year or two in action. The photography shots were jaw-dropping, and I am not a noted jaw-dropper when it comes to 3DMM art design. I wasn't at all sure what to expect when I checked this out; I'd recommend attatching two more screenshots to the movie thread, and possibly even some larger ones inside the body of the post, to give a clearer idea of, if not what to expect, then the impression that this is a unique artistic creation.

Despite the non-traditional style, it has a flavor that is uniquely 3DMM, in the way that Flash or Maya or AfterEffects each carry their own baggage in finished productions -- anything done in Flash looks like it was done in Flash, by nature of its programming and toolset. The same thing is happening here, with a different direction previously untried, and the result is exquisite. I find I'm liking it more as I continue to think about it.

I can definitely see the corners cut (the default 3dmm sky in particular drives me nuts), and a more "complete" visual extravaganza would've been better, but it's still an interesting and offbeat little short. It has its own tempo and does its own thing, and visually, artistically, or thematically, there's never been anything in the program quite like it. It would stand apart from anything I've seen in 3dmm even if it wasn't non-traditionally animated.

Thank you Aaron, I appreciate the many words!

It was very surprising to see this sort of reaction here, because, as you've said, I've been using this same style for the better part of two years now. The thing is, I just haven't released any of it until now.

And as for the distinguishing features of 3dmm, I think that it's the slow framerate that gives most of that feeling (Apart from the obvious gradients on 3d objects). In the beginning scenes of full-body animation, there is a whole lot more to each frame than meets the eye, but 3dmm simply doesn't run efficiently enough to properly display the illusion of movement. In order to create noticeable movements with imported pictures, actions have to be blatant and precisely aligned. Before long, I got fed up with too much work being lost in plain sight and by the end, entire characters were pretty much one or so pictures.

Now I have to figure out if I should learn ToonBoom for Golden, or continue on in this archaic manner.

Oddly enough, your expansions R##.vxp, (which I assume are textures) couldn't be loaded in my Vdmm... I could check it out on youtube, but I feel like I'd be missing out on the true experience you wanted us to have with this.

I'm running version 0.12...is this an issue?

Edit: I did watch this thing on youtube, and I was really, really blown away by how you utilized so much. It almost looked like a flash cartoon, but had that ping of 3dmm-ness. (Only a sphere can look at certain way in 3dmm!)

Great story that was purely show-not-tell, which is hard to do, but you pulled it off.

Anyone else have a warm fuzzy feeling after watching that?

Well done, man.

I don't know if the version you have is a problem but you definitely want to upgrade to 0.14 anyway to avoid the movie-destroying save bug.

Not sure what R## means, none of the textures were named that short. RadioFlyA-17.vxp would be along what I went for

Textures, flat tile font, Expansion, and 3dmm are all that I used

Thank you for the comments, they mean a lot

Bump for Awards consideration.

Tragically excluded from Best Movie consideration due to competing releases, it's my favorite release of last year.

How could I have missed out on this! Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, a more than welcome break from all the short PAMs out there. Uhm, you'll get a longer reply from me later on, I owe you that much.
