Cycles

This review contains minor spoilers.

I was a bit curious when I downloaded Cycles. I have never seen any of Andres' work, but I was eager to watch this movie. Why? You could say that I wanted to see how his movies match up to his rather exaggerated posts and comments. And after watching Cycles, I can kind of see why he types these harsh words.

You see, Cycles is well directed. The animations are great, and I liked the way Andres introduces the movie with an old man telling a story as if it was a myth. It's about a god, named Zorn, who has made mankind (by vomiting, unusually). But instead of being this nice friendly god, we see that Zorn is one not to anger. I suppose you don't like to be crushed to death? Don't get on his bad side then. A second character, Clux, is introduced. He's the rebel, basically. He doesn't give a crap about Zorn, even though he is all-powerful. And so, in retaliation, Zorn makes life all cold and miserable. Guess who the people blame? Clux.

Now I will shut up about the plot. If I told you the whole thing, you probably wouldn't watch it, and this 'review' should be called a 'sypnosis'. Instead, I will talk about why Andres is such a good director basing on Cycles. He animates the two characters, Zorn and Clux, extremely well and their personalities really show. Their contrasts are shown in their first argument, and this was done very well, despite the music kind of drowning out the voices a bit here.

Andres is not the only one who has done well here. The only voice actor in Cycles, James Burgon, has excelled in his roles, taking on the old man, Zorn and Clux. He has successfully given each character a unique voice which matches their personalities and he deserves a lot of credit for this. I would say more about Andres' efforts and James' voice-acting here, but how many movies have I released here? None. Exactly. So I don't think I really should go over-the-top. But overall, this is a delightful movie to watch. If you like to think about the morals after movies, even better. This may not be that action-packed, but this will keep you interested throughout the whole movie. Enjoy.
