This still has the best dancing scene I've ever seen in 3dmm. Honochio is a close 2nd.

I'm still suprised how the Beer Bear won the best HMC award in the 2002 Awards Movie. I mean it was good and all but it was a single short animation...

It was the best HMC of 2002. It wasn't "best handmade character with a really long animation attached to it."

This has always been one of my favorites too, and a great choice because of its obvious similarities to Apfigur's GG series. I actually remember reviewing this for 3dmm Temple. It's pretty impressive to hear Bjorny say he made this when he was fourteen. It's got great pacing and scenery. The animation is very cartoony and fun, for example the quick, clacking hopping they all do when they enter the bar, or the way they pile up all the bodies to block the door.

And of course, the introduction of the "Leg-endary Peonis Monster" immediately followed by System of a Down is, well, legendary.

I'd still have to say I prefer the Groctor Gruff series, because, as you said in that thread Aaron, it seems to fully crossover into that alien territory, while this movie kind of keeps its feet in both worlds, the silly Swedish fantasy as well as the angsty goofy world of the early 3dmm community. However, Digouts did come first, so it does deserve credit for that.

I can't believe the beer bear was made pre-v3dmm.

Haha. Wow. Totally missed this one first time round. Very silly. Very fun. Demented glee is always a fun thing to go for in 3DMM, and this pulls it off very nicely

Still lovin' the Beer Bear as well. Its fur looks strangely like an expansion pack texture.

This is twice as funny as the first time I saw it. Something about the LEGENDARY penis monster just fucking kills me.

If you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and watch cause it's AWESOME.

As I mentioned in the Groctor Gruff thread, this is fun in a similar, but still different way. Neither of them are totally "random" for its own sake, the characters believe the world they're in, and no one's winking at us. This one is more punchline-centric, there are clear "jokes" here, but there's still a lot of surreal background stuff.

The scenery is really great, bright and tacky and off-kilter like the characters inhabiting it. The logic to how these characters interact is fun, like the mummies bringing Jenny Blonde around with them because she might make them popular or explaining there's only one way to stop the leg-endary penis monster ("KEEL. HEEM.") I dunno which (if any) of the mispronunciations are intentional, some things are pronounced correctly in one scene and not in another, but they make things much funnier.

There's a running joke where the characters in the disco move around by hopping. The first time the mummies see it, they look at each other, confused, shrug, and follow suit. This is basically the perfect metaphor for how to approach Digouts.

First of all I really want to thank you guys for making this available in a viewable format, it's a real honor. I really appreciate the effort! I'm also very happy that so many of you take the time to comment and I will try to respond to everybody individually. So here we go!

Compcat: I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I don't know if Groctor Gruff was inspired by Digouts, I guess only Apfigur does. But I was really happy when I saw GG the first time and I remember thinking to myself "Haha, this is great. The entire community will think this random wacky humor is an actual Swedish thing". Which it really is not. It's merely a coincidence that this is the stuff we all ended up doing. Personally, I made nothing like this before I got to work on ITWUFS with Tuffe which really inspired me. The style of scenery, animation as well as the random humor really spoke to me. To be honest, most Swedish people are super boring and could have never imagined anything even remotely like DO or GG.

I don't know if anybody remembers but I worked on a movie called Beavers before this which never got released. I guess mostly because I was too much of a perfectionist, and even though I remade a countless number of times I was never happy with it. When me and Tuffe started making Digouts it was really unpretentious, we had no script (obviously) so we just worked on it like a chain movie and when one of us ran out of ideas we just sent it to the other to continue. This time I didn't care about being recognized as a good animator, I just had fun. I didn't spend hours on animation and scenery like I did on all my unfinished projects when my ambition was to make stuff comparable to that of the greats of 3dmm (need I mention any names).

Old Rivers/Pogo: Yeah, I've never touched v3dmm and (naturally) I never will. The Beer Bear is probably 'my greatest 3dmm achievement', and I believe it was one of the first cel-shaded animations ever released. But I also know that Goro (and probably a lot of others too) made stuff like that way before I did.

Breed: Thanks man, I really appreciate it!

Tuna: You know it!

Aaron: I've never really analyzed the movies or thought about them in that way, but that's a really interesting angle. I really appreciate the feedback and big thanks for making this available!

The truth about the misspellings and mispronunciations is they're all intentional except one — First Mummy: "Something landed on the py-ramid...". Most other characters had Swedish accents which kind of justified their mispronunciations, whereas First Mummy was actually supposed to speak like a british gentleman. The explanation is that my brother actually thought that was how 'pyramids' was pronounced (the weird thing is it's not pronounced that way in Swedish either so I have no idea where that came from), and I really liked the take so we decided to keep it. Also, Tuffe often misspelled the lines in the text boxes (something I also ended up doing eventually) so when we recorded the voices we didn't bother to correct them.

Thank you all for commenting, it's really heartwarming! And sorry about the fucking essay I just wrote...

I had never seen this before. It was pretty funny, in a fun and amusing kind of way. I didn't laugh out loud but I had a smile throughout, which is good enough for me.

Honestly one of the most bizarre, hilarious movies I've seen on 3DMM (for some reason, Groctor Gruff never really did it for me). At the time of its release, the only comedy I'd experienced in 3DMM was silly PAM stuff, so this kinda blew my socks off back in the day. As did the sequel.

When I get home I'm going to watch this again.

this confused me, it's a texture that was in the original batch of 3dmm textures before all the expansions came into play, or were you just saying that the texture in the original batch looks a lot like the expansion batch. come to think of it, i seem to remember a lot of the expansion textures came from props, all the textures from the totem pole and tents etc were made available for 3D word use.

BUT YEAH WATCHING NOW (for the first time )

edit: hahah that was a fun little movie, i always thought it was longer, i guess from hearing so much about it, you assume it's like half an hour or something. my favourite part was definitely the way he just smashes the bottle over the guys head and he dies just like that, the quirky plan goes off without a hitch, for it all be over that easilly, i love it when that happens.
