DEBATE: Is spreading gross animal videos BAD?

This question came up when the raccoon video last reared its ugly head. Does watching, commenting, and showing others these grotesque videos only encourage those who do them, or is the following discussion worth the risk?

Is the ease of spreading these things one of the biggest problems with the internet - Do we give these freaks a platform to perform on?

Does this raise awareness of cruelty to animals/our fellow man/whatever they haven't even come up with yet?

DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH THOUGHTS OF RACCOONS AND KITTENS?

Personally I don't think showing videos/pictures helps any argument except the fact that the people who show them are sick fucks. I mean it's one thing to describe how bad situations are since usually saying something like "they skin the animal alive" or whatnot usually gets a mental image across without the visuals. It makes me wonder what the point of their arguments are anyways.

I'm a terrible person who shares videos of animals being maimed and killed because I want to hide my own sexual compulsions.

Does anyone else, even though their still disgusted by it, still kind of find these videos interesting from a biological perspective? I mean, that's what makes places like rotten.com kinda weird but interesting. You don't get many opportunitys to see what amazing variety of things that the human body can go through.

Yeah, I can relate to the curiosity, it's not like you're likely to see any of those such images in real life. It's not strong enough to make me watch, however. The descriptions are usually more than enough

I dunno. I feel that after years of Ogrish and stuff like that, I have been desensitized to a lot of disgusting stuff. Of course, real life is different, but I think it's hard for me to find something that really disgusts me on the net now.
Maybe that cat video before.

The raccoon video wasn't that bad. Some of my friends were curious about it so I showed it to them.

The animal abuse website was probably just showing the severity of the abuse in some cases; I guess it worked pretty well.

edit: And a lot of the other sites aren't real bad either. It probably does have its benefits, but I doubt that it will change you either way. Personally, I don't think it's wrong morally because there's always stuff like this happening. I don't think that many people really watch it for entertainment value as such, but to learn about the human, or life, or something. Idontknow

BTW, in the UK right now there is some anti seal fur thing with Paul McCartney on TV.

Okay....I haven't seen the raccoon video but it's just shown some guy holding a raccoon by it's hind legs and bashing it's skull against the floor. I mean properly swinging it.
And it's just shown an Alsation Dog getting skinned whilst it was pretty much still alive.

Yeah, Paul and his wife are trying to shut down the whole seal industry because it's cruel in their eyes. The seal industry in Newfoundland is really, really important.

Those are probably the worst videos they have of the sealing industry; clubs aren't even used as widely as they used to be.
