September 11, One Year On.

[EDIT: Oops, I know this is wrong forum, a mod/admin can move this.]

At about 46 minutes past (about now as I write this), it will be a year to the day that all our hearts were ripped out of our chests as the first plane hit the World Trade Center.

I am not American. But I'm sure I speak for everyone in this community who aren't when I say that something like nationality doesn't come into play in such horrible events.

This was an attack on the free world.

About this time last year I was in my Hotmail account, clearing my e-mail, of all things. Mum was down the hallway watching the news in bed.

Dad was down in Melbourne because he was practicing for a race meeting.

Suddenly, I heard Mum cry out. I ran in, thinking she was sick or there was an intruder or something like that.

Then, she pointed towards the television set and I watched in horror as I saw the first WTC building with the plane having just hit.

I got in bed next to her, and held her hand as we watched the whole tragedy unfold.

I couldn't believe it. Like many people my first thought was 'What movie is this?' which then became 'This is going to be World War Three.'

I thought we soon would all be dead. It was the last thing I'd ever expected to see in my life.

For hours I watched and I couldn't go to bed, not knowing what was happening. Eventually I had to because I had to work the next day -- my shift wasn't cancelled.

But yeah, I wasn't too productive that day.

The main thing is that terrorism didn't win. We saw the best of people on this day. While the fight isn't over, it's coming along.

I am dreading that something will happen. Whether it's today or the next day or whenever, I just cannot completely discount it. I hope I'm wrong.

But we cannot let terror rule our lives. Let us say a prayer for those who died and vow to live our lives that we are lucky to have.

The world does go on but we need to remember this day because it really has changed the world.

I will never forget seeing it all unfold.

I was asleep. Mum was changing her soapie tapes (Too busy doing housework to watch TV, so she tapes her daytipe soapies). Needless to say, there was a slight buzz in the air at school that day.

I disagree, i couldn't give a fuck what happened. This may make me sound heartless or whatnot, but if it had happened in any other country, no one would car. If Americans bombed Afghanistan or Iraq on September 11, people would think of it as a bombing, not a date to be remembered.

Being the typical neutral Australian, i will agree, some people did have their life affected even as far away as here, but i wasn't one of them, and i'd wish they'd take their stupid fucking specials off TV, it's ridiculous to think that the majority of Australian's care. We're not like that. We're live and let die kinda people, what's in the past is exactly that, no point to dwell.

I was in my college library at the time of the attack. Kim and I were on this very bulletin board when Goat posted a message saying something like, "Are you guys watching this?"
So we headed over to bbc.co.uk and read - we thought it was a joke a first... we couldn't believe it.

Well, let's put it this way: It if happened in Australia, America wouldn't have taken such drastic measures.

Not the time and place, man, but I probably had a reason. Anyway, if it was on AOL, I just told it to unblock 'GT2002'. Because I don't believe in bearing grudges, I've taken you off my block list. Peace. And I'm very sorry to hear about your cousin. My family was lucky -- my cousin Phillip worked in that building (he works for Morgan Stanley De-Witter Bank, one of the biggest WTC tenants) and he survived.

oh fuck you guys. Why is it such a tragedy when its only american lives being taken? What about the counter attacks by america which ended up killing just as many if not more INNOCENT people in afghanistan and labled calateral damage. What about that? Nothing, exactly.... not american, not free....who fuckin cares if they die, right? Theres no "We will never forget OCTOBER THROUGH DECEMBER" like there is about 9-11. Just because this country has never been attacked this big before does not mean its more important than alot of other mass murders. I'm quite honesty sick of this new found patriotism. Maybe Tony should crawl into bed and hold his mom's hand as he watches military campaigns in the middle east, you'll see some pretty horrific stuff! Dont get me wrong, its terrible those people died in the WTC, but the way the media and the general public handle this is way too much considering there is and was things going on where way more people who didn't deserve to die did. I mean, even after all the violence and carnage, what does the majority of the public wanna do? Go out there and give one to them fuckin towelheads! I go to school with asshole kids saying "NUKE EM! YEAAAAH!!" for christ sakes.

I'm amazed...

Jynx said something serious and valid about 9-11, instead of just shouting "I LOST SEVEN GRANDPARENTS ON SEPT. 11, I'M NOT LETTING THAT SHIT HAPPEN ON MY WATCH!"

I was watching baywatch, and instead of comercial they had news and they said something about planes. then I went into city buyng some stuff and the news was on in all the stores so I could follow what happend...I can't really say it made any big impact on my life, or changed me in any way....alot of people die everyday in terrorist attacks accidents and other ways...and I don't go around feeling sad for them either...

What the fuck!? This is like the 100th time Jynx has ranted on this topic. And once again I totally agree.

You're an idiot Tony. Why the fuck are you all like "LETS HOLD HANDS AND SAY A PRAYER FOR THE AMERICANS WHO DIED IN THE WTC!". A human life is a human life and America are STILL KILLING people in Afghanistan. INNOCENT PEOPLE. Just as innocent as the people who died in the WTC.

Why the fuck are we expected to show some compassion for lost lives when the people that expect it are killing another race at the same time. Its just so hypocritical. Don't get me wrong. I do have compassion for the people who died. But fuck going to a service just to show I care.

Did you see the John Howard speech where he was going on how what we saw that day was true evil and whatnot!? Did Howard forget about his plans with George Bush? The impression I get is terrorism is OK as long it is performed by the US government and not against Americans.

And wasn't John Howard so innocent with his flaunting of the word "evil" when he is the one responsible for refusing entry into our country for the refugees. The same refugees fleeing the attacks by America on Afghanistan. Maybe we should say a prayer for them instead.

I was in bed when my mum came into my room (shes American) she had this blank look on her face and I asked what was up she said "America has been attacked" she told me about this building in New York I'd never heard of before having a plane flown into it. She told me it was on TV so I turned on my TV in my room and I saw it, it was on every channel "shit, now I cant watch Jeez tv" just kidding. I watched the tower fall down and I saw the people on the street running for there lives as the big grey dust cloud came at them it was like some thing out of ID4. It was hard to cope with at school nobody seemed realy intrested, some lebs at my school were laughing and making fun of it ,but I wasnt I had a right to be upset I'm American by blood.

I don't like hearing 9/11 over and over again because it reminds me how fragile life is, and I fill with guilt when I know I'm not living it fully.

Yup, Matt and Jynx sum it up.

I think it's bullshit how there is so much fuss... why remember? Imagine having your mother killed, and every channel on tv and evey radio station is reminding you about it?

I hate how the media exagerate like this, and won't leave things alone.

On Australian TV, there were 2 channels out of 5 tonight that didn't have wtc stuff on them. And one of those was a budget foreign film channel.

You know, cynical and wrong and whatever... but speaking for the Arabs, they are seriously missing an incredible oppurtunity. There are thousands of americans out on the streets, imagine the effect if they bombed all the parades etc? They could wipe out thoussands of americans with no effort at all, at the same time as it being broadcast to the entire world.

Oh, god, the same faggotry again. "boohoo, i'm a rebel". "boohoo, i'm against the govärnment". "boohoo, i'm a cool anti-patriot". "boohoo, i care about the plight of the middle eastern man". "boohoo this, boohoo that". Man, SHUT THE FUCK UP. This isn't patriotism here. This is REMEMBERING DEAD PEOPLE. If you're such a L33t punkass that is all against PEOPLE CRYING OVER THOUSANDS OF DEAD IN THEIR OWN SOIL, then feel free to burn a flag in public and wait for people's comments.

Fuck, this topic is ridiculous. what, do you seriously think every single person besides you is "ohhhh, yeah! fuck afghanistan! they all deserve to die!". No. Most people have some fucking sense of logic. Most people are aware that many others died too. Most people are aware that the U.S. killed civilians in Afghanistan. SO? What, because the GOVERNMENT killed some people, people can't mourn the death of people that weren't working for the government at all?

If you don't like listening to Sept. 11th memorials, fine. Go make a public protest, instead of making some stupid useless comments while listening to anti-flag, in a computer, in the safety of your own house.

I mean people, do you fucking realize how truly sad you are?

"ohhh boooh, the government is EVÄL!!! THEY'RE EVÄL! THEY'RE KILLING PEOPLE! WE SHOULDN'T MOURN PEOPLE THAT WERE KILLED FOR NO DAMN GOOD REASON SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S HAPPENING ON OTHER PLACES IN THE WORLD! BOOHOO! IF IT HAPPENED IN AUSTRALIA THERE WOULDN'T BE AS MUCH SECURITY!!! BOOHOOO!

You're free to say what you want, but don't say stupid things. And ACT. If you're so fucking mad at people celebrating, then DO SOMETHING, you fucking slobs. I bet you won't do shit, except make a silly noise in case there's a minute of silence and then share a high-five with some other loser.

Look, DUMBASSES. This mourning isn't at the government. It isn't "ohhh god, it's sept. 11th. VIVA BUSH'S ADMINISTRATION!!!". It's about dead people. 2,800 dead people in a DAY, in the SAME SPOTS. If you feel the need to destroy the memory of 2800 DEAD PEOPLE IN A DAY because you're against the foreign policy, the find something to do about it instead of attacking some people on a message board and thinking you've accomplished something.

I think Jynx has a point. I mean, he did say what happened was a bad thing, and yeah, it WAS.

Lots of guys died a horrible death and it's sickening, but it's been showed way too much on TV that it's lost the impact now and it's being exploited. I see people selling "9-11 cola" and whatnot, and it's just pure exploitation.

America exploit it too, and it's goddamn true. If it happened in France, Germany, or where ever, then noway would it have the same news coverage it has had.
Bombings happen every day over there.. the US bombed an Afghan wedding and murdered a bunch of innocent Arabs, and now they're saying they were fired on! None of that was publicised and that's just as bad an attack.. it was attacking civilians for no reason (okay, yeah, maybe the bridge fired at the conviently patrolling bomber for no reason), but it was a smaller scale, but it's a lot more common. It's stupid.

And the US act like they don't know why it's happened. It happened because they fucked around with the Arabs lands years ago, and the whole Arab-Israel wars and shit.
