Vlarion 1: The Elemental War
Directed By: Aaron Haynes Genre: Fantasy, Adventure WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS. It's been at least 2 years since we got another orgasmic release from Aaron and during those years we have eagerly been awaiting another release from him since Pamela/Redux DVD. All is known that we have all been awating the remake of Vlarion since he announced that he was redoing the series. Now that the first wait is over we are all blown away. You may notice while watching this (Only if you have seen the original Vlarion 1 movie) that alot of the plot has been played around with. Including new a new prologue, some new scenes and placements throughout the film and a slightly altered ending. My opinion is that although they are new along with the new version of this film, you'd get the feeling of the pressure in the plot that it turns up the level of awesomeness in the cinematography. Now one thing I must say was excellent in this piece of work was cinematography. It was very rare in this film that the scenery was at a normal angle, some decent angles are all over the place, the ol' talking scenes, the fight scenes, even part of no matter of importance in the plot. (Then again every scene in this movie was put there for a reason.) Although the plot is over five to six years old, it's still in my opinion absolute gold. My kind of thing. I've always loved movies with tons of imagination, a pressurable mystery and side story (Dasks strange behaviour as the story begins to unfold), something so big that the whole of planet earth is at stake. Although magic and things like that, they aren't my cup of tea. Things with spells and teleportation always seems a little random. Even when I was watching the original verion of Vlarion 1, I wished that the magic side of the story could be explained a little better. For one example (talking about the orginal Vlarion 1) Dask teleports out of the meeting room and Jack says to himself "I have GOT to learn how to do that!" or something. Then the next minute he can teleport when the Zarethio battle is close to beggining. Although in this version that never happens. But there were cases like that which I thought were a little random, although the may have been needed to have been done, I wished there could have been a scene in which Dask teaches Stacy or/and Jack how to use magic. Another thing I didn't get, although we know how Dask has magic power (the magic infusion point) but how does Stacy and Jack have powers too? Jack tells the story how Dask got his powers, did the same thing happen to him? Or Stacy? Rosal is easy to understand magic wise I think, he's one of those Magic Knights? Same as Brian who is yet to appear in the remake series but his story is only known now by watching the original Vlarion 2/Alternate Vlarion 2, Vlarion 3 and especially Alternate Vlarion 3. Back on the actual movie though... Now, we all know Aaron as one of the best directors in 3dmm history, he co-directed Redux, he brought us Pamela, he presented the orginal Vlarion and the Alternate Vlarion series. Now we have Vlarion...again. Bla bla bla, same plot occaisionally new bla bla bla bling bloo bibbles. But the scenery. Holy horseshit nuggets! Not since Derelict have I seen such amazing scenery, so detailed. Seriously, I mean those who have seen Pamela may have been wowed but this is twice as good. You can look as close as you want with every scene, each scene must have taken god of a long time. Aarons advantage with the movies fight scene was making scene models. Terrania Streets and Ceveron Water Complex. Dasks Bedroom and the inside of his car. Look as closely as you like, every little thing you expect to see (Lets not get TOO specific) but everything you would dream of for a scene in such a movie is there waiting for your eyes to burst upon. We all love music? This movie has a BEAUTIFUL soundtrack, I mean the fight scenes (especially the Hirolix Battle), WOW. Either god only knows or I'm to stupid to know, how Aaron managed to get and select this music. I'm no good at that kind of thing so it must just be me. But the movie has a very nice soundtrack, one of the best I've heard in years for a 3dmm movie, especially one that holds such brilliance.Animation. Godlike. Period. For starters, normal scenes, ones that usually wouldn't require so much animating, had such detail in character movement. Near the beggining, theres Gelst drinking his coffee and looking at his watch, such detail is excellent for both animation and cinematography. Fight scene, wow Aaron, you are my hero, if I ever meet you I shall shine your shoes and eat an earthworm in your honour. Pure amazing, I don't want to reveal too much in how amazing the fights in this are I shall let you observe that for yourself. But prepare for some fighting of indeed epic proportions. Aaron did a pretty good job with the voice casting. Selecting some of the top voice actors in the 3dmm community aswell as some whose voices you may not have heard (Aaron himself) as much as people like Jaymond or Jon Barton. But they were all very nice matching the characters, I was very fond of Porus's evil accent and chuckled and Brackus's voice too. Aaron in my opinion is quite a good voice actor, the first movie I have heard his voice in (I don't think the Redux DVD Commentary counts). But it was a good effort and I hope Aaron voices in other movies aside from his own. Note that I already know he'll be in Ringworld so there you go. In conclusion, Vlarion is a pure masterpiece, without a doubt the best movie of 2006 so far, and this year has already started out better then 2005, I mean we've already had The 3dmm Game Show, The Sniper @ 3dmm.com and now this. I just hope these arent all we are going to get this year, hoping movies like Charlie, D3MONS, Ringworld, The Dragon Born and hopefully Vlarion 2. 2006 will be a year to remember. It is truly wonderful to see the Seven Sleepers back in buisness. Final thoughts: Aaron has given us the remake of a classic, but seeing as the man has greatly improved on everything since those days, we have been given a gift of a movie containing every thing and genre a 3dmm movie has to offer.
