Hahahahah, I didn't really say that, did I? If I did, it was tongue-in-cheek POMPOUS BASTARD talk.

I think I was being a smartass by congratulating you and openly accepting my inevitable loss at your hands. But you were the one who'd brought it up.

No, Mr Z, it is not.

To the owners of the 10 posts I just deleted, don't post inane bullshit in this or any other movie threads.

Well here's an "outsider's" opinion.

First of all the scenery and everything was very impressive. I didn't know to expect so much from a 3dmm movie. I love how the camera seems always moving, very.. dynamic. When the first action scene came around I COULD NOT BELIEVE what I was seeing. Wow.

I hate to be the naysayer here but honestly I found the rest of the movie outside of the battles to be really really fucking tedious. I stopped the movie and switched task several times, but I'm glad I kept going 'til the end because the whole water sequence was... oh my sweet lord. I have no idea how you learned to animate so well. It's just the story was so weak in comparison, feeling almost like a heavily drawn out excuse for the battles themselves. The unwrapping before the smooth taste of a Hershey's chocolate bar... only longer and more punishing.

I kinda felt the sidekicks were underdeveloped or maybe just very banal in their personalities...

At first I was kind of thrown off by the powers everyone suddenly displayed in fights and the overall comic nature compared to the serious tone of the rest of the movie. I guess you were going for a fun rpgish kind of thing here, for whatever reason. I'm probably out of the loop since I didn't see any other Vlarion movies. I wish the rest of the movie had been going for that same vibe, maybe a little humor (not taking itself so seriously), that would have made it more entertaining overall.

Well this is only the first part I know, and I'm sure things can only pick up from here. Just my two cents a little different view.

Thanks for the long reply. Sorry the story didn't grab you, it takes a while to get started (both the series and especially this movie). There's a momentum thing going on, too, so you're likely to lose a lot of that buildup by stopping and restarting. If you don't find yourself caring what's happening, any time crazy shit isn't happening onscreen is pretty much gonna be a slog for you.

Part of the idea in the remake was to make the movie a lot more seamless between battles and plot; there's still a pretty clear difference, but the originals were RPG movies, so this is an attempt to make it work more cinematically. The energy of the two Vlarion fights exceeds any of the other smaller action sequences (apart from the AT siege) by miles, but I wasn't personally struck by a serious change in tone as you were. I'll try to keep that in mind for Vlarion 2 however (which is already much more suited to action and consistent tone).

I didn't intend for V1 to be very solemn, it's actually the most lighthearted movie in the series, but not a lot's happening until Hirolix appears. The appeals for more humor surprised me, but V2 should be a lot more polished in terms of tone. It's more specialized than V1, but the tempo has picked up and there'll be less exposition. You'll probably warm up to this movie's story as the arc of the series becomes more clear.

Thanks for the comments.

Did you seriously watch it or are you just trying to bait me again?

Oh, and try out Star Ocean 3. It's as ludicrous and self-indulgent as Xenogears, almost as poorly paced, but without the meaningless Christian symbolism and with an insanely fun real-time battle system. I enjoyed it despite myself.

The fighting system was stupid... normal enemies having that shield thing is stupid. Game's kinda gay too.

I UPDATED MY SITE MR. NOT KNOWING THAT.

Once you learn how to watch fury meters and time your attacks around their animations to be sure you can connect with them, it's awesome. Only RPG I've ever actually enjoyed battling in. And WAH SHIELDS ARE COMPLEX I CAN'T JUST PRESS THREE DIFFERENT ATTACK BUTTONS AND HOPE IT'LL WORK OUT I'M TUNA HEMATOMA AND I LIKE 80 HOURS OF TRITE METAPHORS

Anyways. COOL, I'm glad you liked it. It does start slow, I realize now. It was designed to be kind of a gradual buildup and then got interesting in the investigation, but then two new scenes got added and one got extended and now it's in the 80-90 scene range before we meet Adrack. So it takes a little bit of patience, yeah.

I'm still confused about this sound complaint. Maybe I'm the only human being in existence that doesn't hear the 3DMM sound library all night in his dreams. How original of a sound do you need when a bag is dropping onto the grass? Or when someone walks across a floor? Because I did actually engineer some of my own footstep sounds for the end part, and NO ONE ACTUALLY NOTICED. >: (.

But yeah, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and as you mentioned, yes, this is largely the establishing chapter, and things start to heat up fast from here. Thanks for the review

Checked everywhere I knew to look, but couldn't find who made this and what it was called, as it's obviously a remix.

Cheers. Also I don't know if you've checked the Art Gallery yet, but I'm doing new fan art for the new series. I hope you enjoy!

I NOTICED ACTUALLY, cuz I was all, "I think those are different step sounds." which is bad in itself, because footstep sounds should never be the topic of discussion.

the default soundness is just that I've heard those sound effects from watch 15 million movies and making my own movies and it's kind of weird seeing all this great scenery, funky edited characters, interesting story... then all of a sudden "tick, thump, tick, thump" from the 3dmm sound library... JUST... YOU KNOW... it irritated me.

Final Fantasy Origins. It's not fanmade or anything. It was written by Nobuo Uematsu for the PSone remake of FF1
