It amuses me in the ironic sense that the trailer was deliberately designed to emphasise the narrative of V1, yet most people are going WOW HIROLIX! WOW SCENERY! WOW WATER! Well done. Good. We've established it looks great. But point of reference people: without the story no-one's going to care about this. And that was the biggest gripe about the 2000 originals was it not? So more specific feedback might ebb the irony of what's going on here. Aaron wanted a narrative based trailer. Not a random spree of action. Because that's not what Vlarion's about. To answer your gripes Ben Rice.

Pretty much. I've been working on this for so long that it's become less of a "remake" to me as much as a complete work in its own. Within the first five or ten minutes I want people to get out of the frame of mind of watching it as an updated version of their memories of Vlarion 1 and think of it in a completely new context, as a film in its own right. Hence why many scenes have been expanded, reshaped, and rewritten to perform new and more integral plot functions in the overall story. Don't think of this as just an animation fest with a fantasy motif and plot attached is all.

Ok, so I agree with this page of comments, in that the original vlarion was also much more plot based. The fights n' stuff weren't all that exciting, but they did help to advance the plot. From what I saw in this, the narrative looks good, and the way the action compliments, not makes, the story will be the hallmark of this film.
That said, I'm so excited.

I wasn't really as impressed as I expected I would be, but I guess that's because I test viewed a while ago. Also, I've never been a fan of trailers that show clips from like, the start of the film all the way to it's finish? I feel it serves it's purpose much better when it includes mostly opening scenes, then a few action shots. If it wasn't so short it may have been a summary of the film :O! Anyways, I know I'll orgasm over the full version.

Well now. That was really good, from what I saw the story will be a major factor. Ive never seen the original Vlarion. And have really no idea what its about. Which is good.
The animation was very smooth. And the graphics were, well great!
When I was done watching the preview I went back to screw around and see how you made certain things. Loved that fact that you made entire scenes out of 1 prop. What program did you use? Very creative.

So, feb 20th ehh? Sounds like you got your shit wired and ready!

Great job, Aaron!

That was very impressive. I havn't seen any of the Vlarions, but in my opinion the trailer was constructed perfectly. The plot is keeping me very interested and the water creature coming out of the pipe also caught my attention. This definately makes me want to start a large scale project again, but I have no idea what that would be

So to sum up, I can't wait for the 20th!

This was probably the most professionally compiled trailer I've yet seen in 3dmm, great work Jon.

And, you know what.. I'm gonna give a congrats to Aaron, too, just because I love throwing these things out there.

Haha, but really, that was amazing. It's going to be so much easier to follow the story now that the characters have character. That's been a massive problem with 3dmm narratives over the years - you're just looking at Action Joe and Gustave, never the characters of that particular movie. And after already falling in love with those actors in other roles, it's difficult to apply them to new situations with each coming movie.

Vlarion won't have any such problem. And the voices are superb! I think you'll find that people will be able to respect your writing and nuances of plot much more this time around (For advances in both your and their skills and age)!

Ah, to fall in love with Hirolix all over again. Hey..hey in the rewrites, you think he could become a super hero? He might be made of poison, but everyone knows that squirrel-saving monster-fighting lug is just a teddy bear floating around deep inside.

Honestly, I really want to watch movies and stuff that people come out with....and sometimes I do, but I'm REALLLLLLY disinclined to because of my gay computer SPEEDING UP THE CLOCK, LITERALLY, MY CPU CLOCK SPEED NEARLY DOUBLES and it gets offtime, just from loading 3DMM. And it's so annoying to put up with that, I have to wait a while before it fixes, restarting doesn't even do it. I have to wait a bit (like, an hour or two, or sometimes more) and THEN restart, and finally it's fixed.

Normally I wouldn't care if the CLOCK is off, I mean, minor inconvenience...but, that fucks up other things, too. Example: if I'm listening to music, every time I type on the keyboard my song skips....it's a really weird bug, but only happens if the clock is faster than real time, which only happens when I load 3DMM....aggravating. Also, it speeds up TREMENDOUSLY the frame rate of 3DMM, ruining most movies, because timing is the key to a lot of movies. And like, voices will overlap because of it, etc.

Whoa..this post is way longer than was originally intended..sorry about that, in short: I WANT to download this, but I also want to fucking fix this weird bug before I even ruin it with high-speed frame rate.

(Side note: 3DMM actually runs a lot smoother and it looks BETTER when this happens...but nothing is synched to it, so it's useless)

Bernatrick: I know what you mean, sort of. It's a really short overview of the plot with a focus largely on Dask, the Vlarion world, and Adrack and Chadran's discussions in the briefing room. Almost more of a teaser than a full trailer; it easilly could have been extended to two minutes with more character-driven dialogue, which is probably what I would have done. It comes across a little bleaker than the general emotional pitch of the film, but it captures essentially what the ultimate tone will be. I think some of this is simply down to Jon's trailer style; he's very minimalist and selects his footage very carefully. It reveals footage in a weirdly secretive way, giving you long glimpses of select things. I like it. But yes, in terms of story and overall tone of the film, it's mostly a taste.

Goro: Thanks That's a big part of what I want to do here, focus on how the characters interact, how they live in this world, and how they react to what's happening, something the originals hit upon strongly in bursts, but not to a really consistent or believable degree at times. The film itself is no longer an obstacle you have to break down to dissect the core elements from, but actually, finally aids the story. I'm really excited about getting it out.

Mousenator: I would love to see a new full-length from you. You tackle horror, sci-fi, and drama exceptionally well; my only request is to see something with more....color in it. Not just visually, I mean that in a storytelling way as well. Round it out and give us moments of levity, character development that doesn't have to constantly be moving the plot forward. I don't mean that to sound like a lecture or anything, just a direction to consider when writing your next script. I can't wait to see what you do next.

Thanks again for the comments, everyone

8.5/10

I liked it alot and it used really good scenery and stuff just in between the mind blowing scenery you had... OK scenery which is still OK just... Yeah. The plot was well emphasized But I felt the voices weren't quite of the same calibure as the scenery/characters etc. The monsters are still as fun as ever and the water monster still looks like globes stuck together to me...Haha I picked out all bad points sorry, it was dam good better than what alot of people could pull up, looking forward to it.

Uh, yeah, I want to see this but when I open up the v3dmm and watch the movie, nothing's there. It's just the blank screen that you'd expect from starting a new movie. I haven't done anything different or anything, as far as I know. It's just not opening properly, from the zip or temp file or even if I actually extracted it onto my computer. Help?

I give this 1% and Xenogears is awesome

EDIT - CHANGED NOW

I haven't seen any Vlarion, so I have no idea what the series is about. It definately look interesting though. Is it mostly going to be narrative, or will it be shawshank-esque?

...WILL JEFF CHING LIKE THIS? He hates almost every single 3dmm sci-fi movie with an indepth story.

It did that for me too... but that's because v3dmm is slow and it eventually showed up. Travis needs to make it more FURIOUS!

Not Travis's fault in this case; Vlarion takes 15-20 seconds to load on my computer, too. It's the 20+ MB of expansions included.

The trailer overlays dialogue from the movie in a narration-esque form, but the movie has no narration interludes (Vlarion 2 will, but only because of the nature of one character's metamorphosis throughout the story). So, no Shawhank style. All jokes aside, if you liked Xenogears, you will probably like this. What I hated about that game was the writing and presentation, but many of the themes and styles and certainly the epic nature of it all are well done, and play a role in what I tried to capture here.

Jeff liked FFEpic, so I imagine he'll find this somewhat similar, just with a higher action-to-runtime ratio. I tried to make the story as entertaining and the themes as universal as possible, so as long as he doesn't let any kind of fantasy/sci-fi setting bias get in the way, I think he'll enjoy it.

Molotov: You may have an old version of an expansion included in the movie. Did I ever send you anything from this film? Or, GOD FORBID, did you get anything from anyone else?

If you're not sure, open the .vmm in the manager, go into the library, and delete everything Vlarion-specific from your expansions directory. Then close the manager, reopen the file, and launch, it should be ok.

It might be. I was pondering at the cause of it myself for a while, then noticed the problem abated for a while (cause I hadn't loaded 3DMM in a while, inadvertently), but then I loaded it again a bit later and it sped up again, and finally I knew the cause. Of course, other things might cause it, too. Not sure.

Finally watched it. It was quite good: it doesn't give away the whole plot, but piques one's interest nonetheless. Good work, Jon. And the best part? I'm in it!

I didn't realize what extensive measures were being taken to animate the characters. Kudos, Aaron... it looks great.

Hey Aaron, HEY! I liked your trailer. Would watch again, AAAA++++.

The amount of effort and detail in many scenes is absolutely amazing. Even the subtlest details look wonderful. But trust me when I say it, it's the subtle things that make a movie.

I am looking forward to it :O!
