Dark Ages Battle Pack (Huge Expansion!)
Demented Ferret's Avatar
Description:
88 3dmm-optimised Weapons and around 110 hand made, high resolution (1024x768+!) textures, all completely rethumbnailed with HANDMADE thumbnails (all 200 of them) for ease of use. This took far more than about 100 solid hours of work over about a month or so. You'd better download it.

I've worked on this for a long, time, the models are from M&B - but this wasn't easy at all. Every single thing had to be rescaled, rotated, retextured, recoloured, reformatted, rethumbnailed and practically re-everything. The horses aren't animated (YET!) because horses are very hard to animate and I'm not skillful enough to do such a task. If anyone wants to have a go - I'll be happy to provide models and textures and I could easily fit them into this pack wherever I like.

The textures are ALL tileable and are VERY BIG so stretching them over large plains is not a problem at all (you can also shrink them and they look great). I've made them so they're interblendable, so if you put a muddy grass patch over normal grass, it'll look like it's meant to be there and you no one would have a clue that it isn't. The textures are also all made to give the user the ability to shade scenes, whether to give a shadow effect or a variety of lighting.

I'm releasing this to show the potential of v3dmm and 7gen, and how things should be done to maximize the ease of use for the user.

Soon I'll release a small extension to this pack with textures that will work with alternatively palletted scenes (textures will be thumbnailed to show what scene they're created for, again for ease of use)

I'm aware of some small problems - for example the horses when created from the props menu are wrongly rotated, but it would take me far more time to correct this than it would take for you to simply rotate the thing!

Here are some screenies:

I'm gonna arduously (spl?) go through LoS and put in these awesome weapons (not including enemies, just the main characters. Because I honestly can't be fucked to do them all). I've done about three shots and it already looks twenty times better.

Holy crap! Downloading now... I'll test it out when I get back from campus. I'm totally enthused about those horses.

Well, when they're 'spawned' or whatever they're at a 90 degree angle, facing up. And they have no animations.

Really awesome, Ferret. Do the horses have black silhouettes?

Yeah, I covered this - but as I said; the whole angle thing takes less than 2 seconds to fix for the user, whereas it would have been far more irritating for me to fix. And animating horses is really tough stuff, I can't manage to do it properly.

Goro, the horses do not have black silhouettes because I thought I'd leave that until they're proper, animated models.

Hm, just noticed also the text in the actual expansion post repeats itself.

And yeah, I have no idea why that picture isn't working, but it still refuses to work for me.

But, whining aside, this is fucking awesome. It really is. This is the sort of thing I've been needing for God knows how long.

What do you use to animate? Not that I could animate a horse.. those things are ridiculous. But maybe I could find someone an animation to base it off of. There are those bear, fox, and cougar models that all have 4 legs, though

Yeah but I think they're stiff legs. These horses' legs are made of about 3-4 pieces each, I think.

Haha, excellent. Although, animated like that and then running in 3dmm's framerate may look a little too slowmo. Still, I suppose you could just animate every other.. slide.. thingy.

Inverted 90°? No animation?

Just kidding. Nice work.

Taco, it isn't HOW to animate a horse, it's just doing it - it's plain and simply a gigantic pain in the ass for an amature animator such as myself.

And thanks for the compliments .
