Plot Summary:
Gorosaur Quickie #2 was released on April 8, 2003 - a day after my 18th birthday. Days before that, my pet bird of 8+ years had died while I was on a trip with friends. While the movie wasn't built around that, once it was underway I did notice how it might've been a factor of inspiration, and so dedicated the work to good ol' Perdie Junior.
Canon wasn't released to rabid audiences - I don't believe the original topic got more than 24 replies, but I believed that you reap what you soe, so that was a healthy number of replies for such a short piece. I remember being pretty angry at Explode Productions because Jorrit didn't "get it," and gave the movie a pretty crudtacular rating. I wasn't about to go out and explain the thing to anyone, but I didn't and still don't feel I have to.. at all. It's pretty straightforward, the symbolism is spelt out for you. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. But I've gotten that "I didn't get it" on projects before, and it's just not something I like losing points for (In fact, it happened AGAIN today - I wrote a bit in an essay about putting up 'no fat chicks' signs. WHAT'S NOT TO GET? Geeze.). No, I'm not mad or anything, I think that that's healthy to get perspectives from those who see your work in one light, and then those who see it in another. The song chosen was Pachelbel's Canon in D-minor, a favorite of mine from when I first discovered MIDIs. I was pretty proud of the 'Nonac,' a song I made by just recording the midi and playing it backwards. But that's another, and particularly lame, story. The Canon seems to have significance to most people, which works to my advantage, but it's also just a very pretty song, and sets the mood pretty well. It's a canon, which is a song that can be played in a cycle (A round, as they are referred to today), which also adds some then-unintentional layers to the cake. This movie was made specifically in anticipation of the choices seniors in high school have to make that will decide, as they are all told, their entire future. That's a lot to put on someone's plate, especially someone who knows that they don't know what's best for them. Dealing with how to get into colleges, what majors and subsequent jobs we would like to pursue, where funds would come from, and our reasons for choosing each of these are all very stressful thoughts, and I was really struggling with them at the time. I ended up allowing myself to take two more years to really think about things at a Community College. I ended up not having many more answers than when I started, but the weight of each decision didn't seem quite as intense anymore. I like to think very optimistically about life, and that explains the ending of Canon. While we might've really appreciated everything that had happened so far in our lives, none of that could possibly compare to the future (Which would end up being a lot longer than we'd experienced yet)! In essence, I'm saying "Tough it out." I think that's a pretty good way to handle most difficult situations, especially ones out of your immediate control or knowledge. I thought the animation on Toad was pretty cute here (And Cheezemaster agreed!), but I did definitely fudge on the backgrounds. I thought I could get away with it, and I did. But it's still a bit dodgy in places, and scenes that would've been magnificent are lessened considerably because of dodgy animation and a small scope of imagery. But it's a quickie, I'm not gonna pick on it. I really liked Canon (You might notice that I was very naieve and ignorant not so many years ago [Much like now], and the movie had been titled Cannon up until now. I'd like to set things straight, however. The Win98 version is still that way, if you enjoy extra N's) when it was released, I liked it well afterward, and I still like it today. It's just a fun piece to watch, which is pretty rare in those that attempt to be emotional flicks. Give it a watch, I think that you'll really like it. Canon was originally released in Windows98, and was highly synched to that framerate. I've reuploaded that version for anyone who wants to watch it in 3dmmfps or whatever. The XP version, completed on April 24, 2004, fixes slight animation problems, and the music cues are altered slightly, but it flows almost as fine. I'd probably be the only one to notice the differences. Oh, and there's also 5 MB of filesize tacked onto it, because the original audio was terrible. |
