Plot Summary:
This was my first successful release, and I really put a lot of work into it to earn that bit of respect. It was very challenging, but overall fun to watch.
This project developed from me playing around with Z-man's masterful Kamen Rider Shin animation (Which left all directors who saw it in awe back in the day. One of the most important animations I ever watched, no doubt about it). The opening scene was pretty much all Z-man's - he built most of the character, he animated the well-animated parts, and I'm not sure I ever officially gave him due credit for it. I threw in some funky hair and changed some colors.. even threw in a half-hearted roundhouse at the end, but I can't take any credit for that scene whatsoever. Everything after it, however, was me. So I avoid double-billing and royalty fees that way, I guess. I didn't have a voice for Flybo (Lock) at this time, so I just used wav clips from other sources. Goku, Piccolo, and even Dr. Evil share the mic in this one. The original audio during the heavy battle scenes was really overwhelming (And is still too much now!), and that hurt a lot of the enjoyment of it, but I had no choice, as certain sound effects and voices had to be doubled and tripled just to be heard at all at that point. DBZ Ultra Clip #1 was received very well by a number of sites (I was very bitter at 3dmm.co.uk for a while for not accepting any of my movies. I even started a sniper movie. In retrospect, I think I just failed at e-mail), receiving scores in the higher ranges. I don't remember any of them specifically, but they probably inflated my ego a bit back then. I was quickly forgotten, however. But that was cool, at least I got an ounce of sunshine. I received two e-mails of congratulations for DBZ Ultra Clip #1 in time, one I can't remember at all, the other was by none other than Brad Ross. It would be many years before I found out just who Brad Ross was, but his e-mail was enough to keep me going for years to come. E-mail was a rare and much appreciated commodity back then.. and is even rarer today! I re-released DBZ Ultra Clip on October 23, 2003 (Which is the version included here). It contains better audio, slightly adjusted/fixed animations, and redone credits, as well as a dedication to Brad Ross who so kindly sent me some kind words those years before. |
