Superdings 2 (Beta)
Aaron Haynes's Avatar
Description:
Beta form of the second ensemble font in the Superdings set. Includes several atmospheric effects, like rain, snow, and clouds, plus rockfall particles, corroded spheres, tables, buildings, sword swipes, doors, a few sample models from 3dcafe, and high-poly spheres and cubes.

This one seems quite a bit more specialized than the original. Lots of rockfall/particle cluster objects that can be used to great effect in energy beams or explosions (and the polycount is low enough to use a ton of them in a scene, for once). Particularly proud of the rain effects.

Listed this as a beta, as there are several known problems with some of the models (coming in sideways, inverted normals on at least one or two). And while the corroded spheres look really cool, be wary, as only a few of them caused lag on Travis's computer. No telling what that will do to yours.

Oh yeah, could use a mirror if someone would be so kind.

Use this thread to try stuff out, and make suggestions regarding changes to these models. As always, this version of the font can be used in your movies if you want to get started right away. Enjoy!

I just experienced my first ever crash, and all I was doing was rotating the "z" shape close to the screen.

Hmmm. May be similar to the way underscores do that when you rotate a ton of them.

Also, Travis says, "buh?"

I'm gonna go test it out woo

...haha I love that bridge, it makes many cool looking columns and weird objects by itself, and the rain and snow and such is great

Thanks a bunch

And yeah, someone do a good rain picture, I messed with one but it turned out crap, so I didn't screenshot it. The last one uses the rain model in an interesting way, though.

An attempt at making a random futuristic/fantasy cannon fire effect.

Is that just a custom interface, or are you on a different OS. (Wondering if someone got vista)

It's just a simple modified visual theme for Windows XP.

Excellent, this will help a lot. Seeing as it is a beta I'm gonna wait until the final one is finished before I start working with it on Rayman.

Technically you can use these fonts without v3dmm. But if you made a movie then the person watching it would have to have EVERY single expansion you used already installed correctly on theirs. So you'd have to provide a whole list of expansions you used for download and then they'd have to install each one in the same directory you did just to view one movie. It'd be like having to provide a list of every single doramon/n3dmm/frankie's file you used and exactly where you installed each one.

While v3dmm pretty much just takes care of that mess for you and does it itself by creating what you could call a "virtual directory" which isn't in one of the core 3dmm folders at all (no risk of fucking up your 3dmm) and installing all the expansions (which are packaged with the movie) into that virtual directory, thus allowing you to easily view that movie. All of this is done in a matter of seconds, if not less.

Remember what happened when Dominator Dan screwed up installing his expansions correctly for JDR revolutions and everyone had to move all their expansions into his configuration to watch the movie and then reset them to normal after watching?

So in other words, v3dmm is the easy and idiot-proof way to manage expansions. Also I have a dentist's appointment in 13 hours and I would do anything in the world to avoid it.

Hm, the zip just opens the .3cn, .3th and .cfg files. I need the actual vxp. How do I use these three files to get the actual vxp? I remember it being simple. Or something.

Ah I see, okay then. It would be helpful with a list of what's in there because I feel like I'm missing/overseeing something.

Someone restrain me so I don't hit him. NO ONE WILL EVER BE DOING THIS AGAIN. EVER. That's the entire point of v3dmm, so new expansions don't have to be packaged into retarded massive .exe files that everyone in the world has to download individually. v3dmm is easier than normal 3dmm + expansions. It is absolutely fucking silly to be afraid of using it, for any reason.

Chippy: Rename the .zip to .vxp.

Aha. Got it, ta Aaron.

I'll post anything if I think it's worth it. Experimenting now.

EDIT: Yeah, can't come up with much right now. But, fantastic work. This is going straight into my movie.

... tomorrow.

1: hahaha cool
2: the zip is the vxp, you can't do a vxp because (at least on my computer) it automatically changes the extension to zip. All you have to do is rename it anyway. Heck, I'll just rename the actual download --renamed and relinked
