At school today my friend got in trouble for not saluting the flag...

Okay, we had this dumb assembly at school where students participated in a mock "olympics" type athletic ceremony in the gym. Before the competitions, they raised the flag and the choir sang the national anthem. Myself and three other friends did not stand for the anthem, mostly because we are lazy and dont see much of a point to the whole flag ceremony.
This coach/teacher tells us to "STAND YOUR BUTTS UP!" and we all did, cause we didnt want to make a scene--however, my best friend in the world, Aaron, said to him "ya know, you cant make me do this" and he sat down. Now according to a supreme court ruling in 1943, the first amendment was expanded to say no students can be forced to participate in any sort of flag salute at school. This teacher however, kept arguing with him, and Aaron stood strong and wouldnt budge. The teacher was getting FURIOUS, red-faced, and screaming. It was pretty funny cause in the argument, Aaron called him a "gustapo nazi freak"!
He told my friend if he didnt wanna stand for the flag, he could go sit over in the corner away from his friends. So he was being PUNISHED for something he has the right to do. When Aaron refused, he was sent to the assistant principle who gave him two detentions after school.
Aaron and I made a copy of an ACLU document that states the supreme court ruling and showed it to the assistant principle and said he shouldnt be punished for doing nothing. This dumbass simply replied with "Get a lawyer." So we were like, okay we'll file a civil suit with the ACLU representing us.
SO what do you all think of this?? Fester, im looking your way, i know you're politically involved. PUNKS UNITE! heh, but honestly, whatdya guys think?

Firstly I think you should consider taking into account simple paragraphing techniques to make your long posts easier to read.

On the other hand, you should take their ass to court. Where do you live? America?

Goodie, you'll probably be able to come away with a quarter of a million for 'emotional damages'.

*edit* Edited a few spelling errors and please note that this is in reference to Blake's Post not Xclexski's*edit*

the aclu could easily file a civil suit over something like this, they do it for students everyday. it would make him take away the detentions so fast his head would spin.

It's pretty sad though that you wouldn't want to at least stand up during the national anthem. I mean, who's side are you guys on?

I think they said it best on South Park (of all shows)

"If you don't want to cheer for the home team, then maybe you should just get the fuck out of the stadium"

I dont hate this country and we meant nothing negative by not standing. We were simply enjoying and exercising our rights guaranteed by the 1st amendment.
Great men died for us so we could NOT worship a flag if we didnt want to. If we didnt exercise our rights, it would be the ultimate insult to those men.

I'm not arguing that they don't have the right to do that, I'm just saying it's disrespectful any way you put it.

Im tired of southpark being so damned right-wing sometimes.
First of all, i cant "get the fuck out of the stadium" because i am 17. So that makes no sense. We dont leave because we CANT.
And im not against the "home team". I cheer for the players, not the damn piece of cloth they put on a stick and wave.

Sounds to me like you're just trying to cause trouble for the sake of causing trouble then. Stand up for the flag, it's not hard. It's what normal people do.

People go a little far by saying "youre either for us, or with the terrorists!" which is utter bullshit. I take my own side because i actually use my brain and realize its not that simple. Im highly against terrorism and groups like the taliban and al-queda, but ya know, there are also terrorists in this very country that we need to deal with. So you cant blindly say america is the good guy and they are the bad guy. Terrorists and idiots are everywhere, there arent two 'sides'.

we're not causing any 'trouble'. We're doing something the constitution SAYS WE CAN DO!! We're being american and patriotic, for gods sake.
And by the way, Goat, I know you are smarter than this. There are no "normal" people.

1: You're right Blake you DONT have to stand up for the flag, but since people will think less of you if you dont you just might WANT to.

2: Its wrong for the school to punish you for exercising your right to stand for the flag.

3: This is why you should stand for the flag, because if you dont people WILL harrass you.

In short, it is your right to not stand for the flag, but if I were you I'd stand my white pasty lanky ass up to avoid situations like this alltogether.

yeah youre basically saying we should sacrifice our civil liberties so we dont cause any conflict?? we wouldnt want anyone to HARASS US or NOT THINK NICE THINGS ABOUT US now would we???

Those who died in the american revolution are spinning in their graves at the thought of this.

"Those who would give up freedom for safety deserve neither freedom nor safety,"
-Benjamin Franklin

I am speaking contrary to this sick and twisted "rebel against society" crap. Like that's really going to do you any good when you grow up. It's time to act like adults and work within the system to better yourself in life. Normal people know how to respect their nation, and saluting their flag is part of it. For crying out loud, you don't even have to salute as far as I'm concerned, but at least stand up and show your support for you country. When you don't, people will find if offensive--especially during a war time like this. Our country has been attacked, any American citizen who refuses to stand up for the national anthem is solely an example of one who takes his civil liberties for granted, and underappreciates what this country has given him. It's this same freedom that lets you have the choice to stand or not stand, but are you really going to repay your forefathers by taking it and using it against them because your legs are sore? They gave you a life without oppression, and you can't even repay them by standing during the anthem--even if it's just to stretch your legs. So it's the principle of the thing? Well then that's just plain sad.
