Re-released as part of the 3DMM Preservation Project. One last halloween movie before the regular schedule resumes.

This might be my favorite movie of HMC's. I'll have to watch Mario Saga again and then decide

In hindsight it's a little depressing that this was probably the best completed project I ever made. I never really had my 3DMMing opus. In Stickman, the art direction still holds up ok, I think, considering it came out six years ago (I was so proud of that living room model when I made it), but the (sparseness of the) music, the storyline, and the animation were pretty subpar. I guess my strengths just laid elsewhere.

Maybe, but I dunno. I think it has to do with your confidence as a storyteller. Your movies have a kind of half-hearted nervousness, resorting to cheap laughs or a plot escape hatch (see: RoT ending) when you're not sure what to do. Like I just get this sense that you're worried about making something bad or embarrassing, so you're not sure where to begin or how to proceed if you do begin. I'm almost certainly projecting a little, since these are some of the problems I have, so sorry if that's overly psychoanalytic. This is meant as an observation, not a criticism.

Maybe you just need someone to bounce ideas off of to get a good story going? I have the hardest time starting from scratch, I often have to write something really godawful and just let it be godawful for a while before returning to it and trying to determine what would make it better. Could be the medium, too; you seem to have a stronger sense for pacing in comics than in movies from what I've seen. I dunno if you're still interested in storytelling vs. focusing on illustration for its own sake, but there's a lot of different approaches that could totally change how you view your writing strengths.

I showed this to one of my friends and he asked "Why is there a picture that says 'Rape Her' at 2:32?" I had no valid excuse. :\

EDIT: 8000th poast!

Ever since this came out I've always really loved this movie. It seems to me to be so representative of the enthusiasm and potential of v3dmm when it was just released. And I'd always wished that more people would've done more work with 2d texture animations. I did a bit of that myself (it was much shittier than this) but unfortunately that got corrupted and was lost forever. Still, out of the few that did mess with 2d animation in 3d environments, you were always the best, HMC. I still have fond memories of the "Ninji Saga."

But anyways, this movie is really quiet and has a really unsatisfying ending, but visually it is very engaging, and since that is my primary pleasure of 3dmm, I find myself always coming back to this movie when I'm randomly searching through my 3dmm folder for a hit of nostalgia.

And now that you mention the "RAPE HER" thing, when I first saw this I was like "Oh, just a silly shock joke," but considering the context of the story, and the fact that I'm sure at least 75% of the community members must've been sexually frustrated at the time, it is a bit curious. Not that I'm laying judgment on you man, just as a general observation of the strange, subconscious things that lurk within the id, especially in the those years; biologically we come from a very different world.

HMC: Just say it's a cutting satire of exploitative magazine covers.
