Gustave in two parts...

This is the Gustave model from 3DMM. In seperate top and bottom half varieties, allowing better animation possibilities (like, say, decapitation.)

The only problem is it's 1MB for a joke that'll probably last about 5 seconds.

No, the top and bottom halves are around 500kb each. You'd have to take a few actions and costumes out off the two models to reduce the size.

I suppose Destra's idea's good for smaller file size. Like.. the legs' actions (some of them) are very similar, like, talking and mad sad or something, because the main movement's in the upper half. Still..

Arghh...Thats hardly the point - we can now manipulate the body parts a lot easier. It doesn't matter if that technique is used throughout a 5 hour movie, it'll still only bump the size up by 1mb.

In that case can't someone just make a model with a transparant skins and then we could interchange limbs from visible to invisible on just one model when we want?

How much would removing the default actions (grow, shrink, spin, etc) reduce the filesize?

Haha!

I did a test movie of Gustave's legs walking and his top half in the walk action (so.. it basically looks like he's walking, believe it or not) but then turned the top half round 180 degrees. Looks fucking freaky.
