But yeah, cringe old posts aside I feel like there's a lot of history here that might not have been taken into account. Not everything would be in classic threads. The Iraq War stuff would've been 20yrs old, and I remember that being a pretty intense and eye-opening time.

I think a good compromise would be, keep the private addition and make it so off-topic threads over 10 years old can only be accessed by senior members.

I don't think benefits for member status is a good idea. It would just result in new users making a massive amount of pointless posts in order to increase their count.
