While I understand why you decided to delete old threads, I feel that there was a better way you could have done this.

(Ignore the shittiness)
you could've added a disclaimer feature that automatically appears after a post reaches a certain age. Which would take longer to implement, but I think it would be better in the long run:

you could've gotten some of the mods to make some of the users appear anonymous. Trooper didn't want you to but slime did for example:

(Idk if mods can do that for posts other than movie releases, so more coding might have to be done)

I don't want either of these to happen, but if you have to do something I'd prefer one of those.
I understand some people regret what they've posted, me included, but idk I feel like at a certain point you should just look back and laugh at how dumb you were back then.
I don't think employers are going to judge you for a 15 year old 3dmm.com post anyway. They check twitter and other popular social medias not forums.

Lhh I'm not sure about the disclaimer idea. That just makes the content sound way more suspicious.

I mean if people are worried about stuff like that, they can just edit their own posts.

Implement my idea or do a “search and destroy” thing where you can delete every instance of slurs/dumb things you said

Anyone that's wants to be a coward and remove all their posts can, this is an unnecessary thing to do.

Don’t prune the off-topic forums but I don’t care about stuff being private for guests

Yeah that would be a reasonable middle. The only downside is that the frontpage looks pretty dismal if you're not logged in.

I just think it looks like dogshit, should've been done the way it is when you click on someones profile. With it still being there, but when you click on it, it encourages you to log in. Don't really care that much if it stays though.

However, having the old off topic stuff private for guests would be a very much better thing to do and would probably make both sides happy.

I didn’t realise when I made my previous post that the off-topic forums had already been pruned

That was an extremely bad decision

Not actually but I do think it should just be an easy user cp option to purge all posts

My suggestions for the future:

1. Don’t prune any more posts
2. Make me a super mod
3. Don’t make Plop a super mod
4. Ban Doog for bumping all those threads
5. IP ban Patryk/HappyTime/whatever

I'll admit, I may have jumped the gun and been a bit selfish with my approval. In retrospect, I think it's a bit tragic that posts by 3dmmers who passed away, like Pozin and Happyjuice, have disappeared.

Maybe the community should've been consulted before pruning, and having the option to change your username + making forums private would've been a good enough compromise.

Now I feel bad for telling newbies not to bump old threads. I doomed so many threads!

But for real, if it's at all possible to reverse the thread purge, I beg you to, Goat.
