I think I'll stick with that hand. I want voices, and I want them done well. That's not so easy to find. And regardless if you think it's a reason, it's nonetheless true.

I'm very obsessive about color and scene construction, but I seem to be about the only one. When I started 3DMMing, there were a lot of people whom I aspired to be as good as someday. Nowadays, in terms of scenery, I'm pretty much the top tier. There's very little that manages to inspire me anymore, so it's hard to feel motivated. Like Aaron said, this slows down the momentum of the entire community. It has nothing to do with Andres, and I think that the domination of Off-Topic Chat is more the result of 3DMM's deterioration than the cause of it.

That's quite a boast.

Yeah, this thread is pretty encouraging actually. There's a lot more people working on stuff than I thought.

You can try to break down all the possible causes and contributing factors all day long, but nothing is going to get better with a cooperative catalyst of some kind. I can try to set an example by reviewing movies, Tom Breed can try to start momentum by making fun shorts, anyone can contribute in some tiny way by making a quick animation, but it's like trying to push a car uphill by yourself if no one's willing to rouse themselves to respond in some way.

If you've been out of practice for ages or don't feel like you have it in you to make another movie, there's not a damn thing wrong with that. Even if you don't feel like you can contribute to a greater discussion about the community's history, or recent developments, fine. Leave some feedback on an animation. Watch and comment on a movie in the database. Just don't passively glance at new threads before moving onto whatever might give you more instant gratification. You're here already, so make yourself visible in some constructive way.

but the quality is low. it's hard to feel encouraged to download a movie when tom breed is trying to save the community by making lo-fi jokey shit.

Watch anything Michael Sandford's done and wait for the rare high-profile release.

Jon Barton's Devils + Angels will be out in a little over a week.

Well, that's kind of a double edged sword, isn't it? Quality takes longer, and if you want good quality people are going to keep up the "OMG 3DMM'S DEAD!" stuff in the production phase. I'm just glad people are still making shit despite the discouragement of the 3DMM is Dead movement.

You're right, you just need a challenge. Maybe Beast or someone could get you going

And don't forget about Mario Saga. Keep that going!

I strongly recommend a hype thread, partly because it's great for motivation, partly because someone might have a suggestion for ideas, and partly just cause I kinda want to see what you're up to.

Indeed, maybe once I get another decent chunk of it finished. I left the bulk of the real animating for last, because i'm a bit rusty at it these days, so once I get some more confidence with it things will probably pick up again.

3dmm is dying because most of the community is growing up and moving on.

I definatly agree. Basically, no Travis, no 3dmm (for me).

Also, there are better movie making programs for less money these days. Poser 5 is less than $100.

Another thing is that technology-wise, 3d movie maker is just pathetic now. It used to be amazing, the graphics were around at the same time as snes.

...

Then N64

...

Then Dreamcast

...

And after that, it just became pointless.

... that's still more expensive than 3dmm ever was, to my knowledge. And 3dmm's still the better program for making movies.

Well certainly, I love 3dmm, easiest 3d movie maker ever created; but CG 3d movie making is much easier than it's made out to be. At least now, I think.

Your right, though, money wise you'd have to buy 3d models. Although, if your a modeller, you could make a really great movie in 3dmm or in cg.

Uhmm, Poser is not a move making tool. Also:

You have got to be kidding me, it's not a walk in a park - and certainly not something ANYONE can do. It requires a lot of knowledge and expertise in the field, as well as a metric fucktonne of time.

I don't think there's any program that has as much movie making ease and flexibilty 3dmm.

And, going back to the topic at hand, I think 3dmm would pick up quickly if we set out to create an audience outside of 3dmm.com
