Omnus
Plot Summary:
On the most important planet in the universe, a ruler faces treachery as his enemies begin their plans to supplant him.

After over a decade, I've finally had to face facts and give up on Omnus ever being completed. There are things I'd love to redo and complete, but I just don't have the time or energy anymore. The animation quality is kind of all over the place, as I started this back around 2005/2006 and have been learning as I go since then. That said, I think much of it still holds up. I'm very proud of the near hour that IS done and hope, even in its unfinished form, you guys still like it. With that, said...Here's Omnus.

I'm actually trying to get into voice over work. I've considered actual film making, I just have no idea where to even start. Plus, being pretty much locked into the Chicago area doesn't really lend itself to much film work.

your work never ceases to amaze, dustin. will sit down and watch properly when I have the time but from what I've seen already it looks very well made and evidentially like it was a hell of a lot of work and structuring required to capture the scale of it all, the score also looks like it resonates well with some of the more dramatic moments here. as I said this is from a brief glance but I will absolutely check this out in full soon!

well done for getting as far as you did though dude, it's more than the rest of us shmucks can be arsed with nowadays so you get an A+ for dedication regardless of this being unfinished

also

Hey dustin, you should link the actual vmm file so that people can take it apart, learn from it etc.

There are a bunch of them. It wasn’t created in one single file because years ago shit kept getting corrupted and scenes would freeze. At some point I will.

I'm glad that I blazed some good shit before I watched this. I completely forgot this movie even exists, but yeah, now I think back and remember you hyping this movie up way back in the day. I clicked the link thinking it was your gangster movie, but instead a space movie...cool!

Unsurprisingly, it was fucking epic. And I totally understand why at some point you were just like...fuck it, this is too much to finish. God damn, that was probably another hour at least of storytelling that you had to do.

That was just really beautiful to look at. The prettiest space imagery by far pulled off in 3dmm. The giant purple planet made my jaw drop open.

The hour flew by pretty damn fast. Part 1 sure ends on an Empire Strikes Back note. It's cool to see a space opera with really fucking brutal violence, and remembering that it's a Dustin Guest movie, it's quite uncompromising, having no clue who lives or dies.

Great variety of action, from really cool space battles to the sword fights to the giant armies fighting. Now, there is one question I had in my mind about the universe that was created...

If these people are operating super high tech spaceships and have mastered technology, why do they still use swords, bows and arrows? In this regard, I kinda wanted to see some futuristic weapons when they hand to hand combat each other. But yeah, maybe I'm just being too greedy here. The sword battles were still fantastic.

I do wish we could have seen more of the protagonist's brother.

But yeah, I totally forgot this movie even exists, so it was such a pleasant surprise to see this pop up. Though I'm still anxiously await your gangster movie.

Thanks man! My reasoning was SO flimsy (basically I just wanted a cool-ass epic sword battle. The idea was that on Omnus, they were very careful about what they put into the atmosphere, or they could contaminate the Lexinum. But again...just wanted to have LOTR style battles AND space battles.

That explanation works for me. You wanted to make like a Star Wars meets LOTR, and I'll accept the contaminating the atmosphere explanation. But yes, great brutal violence to go with the LOTR battle scenes. I'd like to see more space operas with brutal violence.

Sci-Fi's always going to be a go-to for me. Especially if it involves brutal action. I started writing a story a year or so ago about a genetically and cybernetically enhanced super soldier that goes on the run. Never did get far with it, though, as I ran out of steam. I spent a fuckload of time world building, though and hope I can find something to do with it some day. At one point early on, I considered making it into an episodic 3dmm series, but for A LOT of reasons that would be difficult. (Not the least of which being the 3 most important characters are all female and female VO is hard to find, especially for something as archaic as 3dmm.)

okey dokey so I finally sat down and watched this the other day and once again Dustin, full respect to you for taking this project as far as it went. I could really see a lot of quality potential in this film that you carried over into your next movie, I kinda wish I saw this BEFORE having my mind blown away by 10-34 so I wouldn't feel such high expectations to be inevitably let down by this film being unfinished

the film itself is great though, I absolutely love the grand scale you brought to the table which is showcased so well in a lot of shots that even when choppy and unfinished looking still presents the scope of your vision and dedication to carrying it out. you bring a lot of humanity to the table with your films I notice, the characters dialogue, relationships and more small details like their body language are normally things that aren't explored or elaborated on all that much with 3dmm movies but you fully went for it. the fact that such a more serious project like this is worth celebrating in my opinion, you're very multi-talented Dustin. Be it as a writer, story teller, animator, director or voice actor, you can literally do it all. I'll likely have to watch this a second time to go more in depth with specifics but all in all, fantastic work Dustin. You should be proud. More people need to see this!!

Damn, man, thanks! Letting this one go was a tough decision, but I wanted to do more with it than 3dmm was capable of producing. And, honestly (and this is gonna sound a lot more pissy than I mean it to), the utter non reaction to this pretty much tells me that the attention span isn't much there for this kind of movie in 3dmm anymore.

Really, the only reason I'm finishing Deja Vu is because I've got pretty much all of the movie animated and I've already put this much effort in that it would be a waste not to.

Thank you for watching and that glowing review, man. I poured over a decade of love into making this thing and I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
