Stranger 4

And finally, we get to the last movie of the film festival: Stranger 4. I'm not a big fan of Jordi's movies. I find his style annoying. I wasn't a huge fan of his series Stranger, so I wasn't exactly howling with happiness at this being the festival closer. But I was pleasantly surprised. Stranger 4 is by far the best movie of the festival, and Jordi's best movie to date.

Sheriff John Duke rules the West. To stop him, Stranger is sent back in time. What follows is a ridiculous adventure/western of Stranger shooting people and attempting to find John Duke. This is, by no means, a great plot. But it's a damn plot. It has a beginning, a middle, an end. It actually keeps the audience watching, because there's something to happen at the end as opposed to random crap. This, alone, makes it better than anything else released in the festival.

The direction is excellent. Unlike the shameless DD ripoffs in the earlier films in the series, this one is purely Jordi's style. Without being overly flashy, the movie manages to be both fluid and detailed, with it's style suiting the playful story perfectly. There's all sorts of fun details to be had, such as the marquee "John West" in the intro, the nods to western's greats in the hotel, the flame reflection on the car, everything. More importantly, the movie doesn't drag or become tiring, keeping me hooked throughout it's duration. The soundtrack is excellent, consisting of all sorts of country songs, and the sound effects and voices are solid, too. The only downsize to the movie is it's ending, which is somewhat low on excitement with regards to the rest of the film. There's not much to say about this movie: it's simply damn good.

Well directed and with a competent story, Stranger 4 is Jordi's best work and the one great movie of the festival. 4.5/5.
