I started this movie a year ago while my son was in the hospital as an outlet for what I was dealing with. Animation took 3 months and editing/voice work has taken the better part of the past year, with people volunteering and then not delivering. I finally just said fuck it and did what I had left myself. So, here it is, after about a year of work. Editing and sound mixing was done entirely outside of 3dmm.

I uploaded it to google drive as I'm certain it would get hit with a copyright strike on youtube and it's too big for my Vimeo account. If anyone has anywhere else they might be able to host it, by all means!

Note: I included the vmm file below. There's no sound and some scenes aren't in order, but if you wanna pick apart the scenes or just check out the mods, feel free. There's a LOT of them, which is why it's 303mb

Alright, so, where do I even start with this?

I haven't sat down and proper watched a 3dmm film in a while. Other than like, Grandpa Took the Car Keys or The Amazing Race or some other short jokey joke little number on YouTube, and I had assumed that, y'know, all the old timers had completely moved on, and all there was to be found here these days were the youth of today churning out zero effort trash, where it's not worth my time to even open the thread, let alone watch whatever's there

And here you fucking come, waltzing in pushing your gigantic stones around in a cart, king shit of 2020, Dustin fucking Guest.

The biggest critique I could make about this film is how incongruous all the default 3dmm actors feel next to all the custom 3d work, but that feels like the tiniest nit to pick, and it would be unfair to even hold it up as serious criticism.

Beyond that, the biggest problem here is that you've absolutely hit the fucking ceiling of what 3dmm can produce. The aliasing jitters are humble and cute when it's something from the pre-v3dmm days, and here it feels so weird and out of place against how well-done and professional every other aspect of this film is. There's also a consistent green hue to the film, that I can't discern if that's a limitation of the palette or an artistic decision.

Dustin, my dude, you've blown my fucking mind with this. I saw a film with your name attached and was sure that someone born in the 2010s had bumped an old film to say that the link was broken, but no, you released what may be the last great 3dmm film.

Absolute legend.

I am absolutely honored to receive the "and" credit in the cast. It's been ages since I've watched a 3dmm movie, and yes, at the beginning I did say to myself, "fuck. 3dmm's frame rate." Besides that though, just...holy fucking shit!
Yeah, it's the best fucking thing ever made with 3dmm, and hell, even with 3dmm's limitations and shitty frame rate, I'll take that over the majority of big budget Hollywood action scenes any day. Creative, violent and brutal as fuck, at times making me gasp...like that fucking power tools scene, Jesus Christ. And has there ever been a better power tools action scene than this movie?

Yeah, in the year 2020, the best fucking thing ever made in 3dmm came out. Didn't see that one coming.

Dustin, you need to be getting paid fuckloads of money making animated films. I hope you can submit this as your calling card. Just...fucking...wow.

Damn, guys. Thank you! Rewatching this for the 5 millionth time, I see ALL the flaws and wasn’t sure how this was gonna go over. These two responses alone made it worth it.

That would be caused by the palette. It bothers the everliving fuck out of me but certain shades of grey get turned green with that shaded palette. The problem is, I think it looks terrible without it, so...win some, lose some.

That said, I still have one big one left to finish that I firmly believe blows this away. I just really need to sit down and voice act the shit out of it. That’s gonna be my last. Figures I started with a mob movie and am ending with a mob movie. Deja Vu has all the animation done, the music and sound effects are done, all that’s left is VO. Coming as soon as possible.

Well, this is certainly one of the biggest surprises of 2020! This is absolutely one of the greatest things I have ever seen produced in 3dmm, the attention to detail you bring here Dustin is absolutely insane. I mean seriously where do I even begin? The use of actor fonts or whatever it's become now over the years is just beautiful, the way these characters move and interact with one another and their surroundings, the sublime pacing from start to finish, the little things like the spinning wheels on the cars, or the antagonists hair flowing as he rides the motorcycle. I absolutely loved the sense of continuity you brought to the table here, like the police car having a big scrape along its side after dragging along the wall, the bullet holes and shattered glass on the getaway vehicle and the main characters gradually getting more and more bloody and messed up as the film progresses.

I think the only downside to this IMO is simply the fact this was made in 3dmm to be honest, with all the imported mods for the characters and scenery it was bound to look at least a little on the ugly, pixelated side but that's obviously no fault of your own it's just the graphical limitations of this ancient software being pushed far beyond its capabilities. Just when I think I've seen the very best 3dmm has to offer, you blow my and I'm sure everyone elses expectations out of the water and you should be immensely proud of that, Dustin!

From a technical standpoint this is undoubtedly one of the best developed pieces of work made in 3dmm but also from a mere entertainment standpoint, this was one of best executed action sequences I have ever seen in 3dmm, it was perfectly structured and my jaw was literally hanging for the entire runtime. Congratulations Dustin, this is a genuine masterpiece and if you say Deja Vu is gonna blow this out of the water than I honestly can't wait to see what you have in store for us!

10/10

Thank you, man!

That hair thing was such a simple detail and SO easy to do but I LOVE how it turned out. I REALLY wanted to bring a sense of punishment to everyone and everything in the fight, so by the end they're just a wreck. I'm glad that came across.

Thank you, Plopilpy. Not sure how long it'll last before getting nailed for all the music I used, but it's good to have up there.

Awesome job on this Dustin. This was long overdue to see a new decent 3dmm film being released, and I'm absolutely impressed to see loads of mods you made for this film.

It DOES have a disturbing lack of video game and 80's/90's cartoon characters.

Wow, excellent job, seriously. As others have said, the most insane use of 3dmm I've ever seen. The combination of fantastic directing skill and ANCIENT SOFTWARE MODDED TO ALL HELL makes this one hell of a spectacle.

I can't remember the last time I wrote in a 3dmm.com comment box but I had to say something cause JESUS.
